Huth and Shawcross together certainly put the willies up attackers more than Shawxross and Wilson. Huth can strangle foreign infidels with much greater ease than the likes of Wilson ....Tis a fact. Could you see Suarez sinking his teeth into Huth.....? Mumf They wouldn't sink in and Huth wouldn't notice anyway.

Was poor for the goal, otherwise fairly solid during the game. However that 92nd minute foul had Sidwell written all over it, but Huth is excused. Wouldn't start him over Wilson though.

Nothing like Sidwell except that it was a foul and a freekick was given. Huth starts from a goalside position and reacts instantly to bring the man down. Otherwise he would have been through on goal. Sidwell, like Pennant previously, chases a man and needlessly brings him down with a clumbsy challenge from behind when he's surrounded by or about to run into the defence. Huth had to make the foul, Sidwell didn't.

I think some are being a little too over-critical of Huth for the goal.
Altidore showed good body strength to bounce off Huth, but even then he's going away from goal. Not many people would put money on that waster being able to turn and put a pin point shot right into the bottom corner from where he was. It looked like it went though both Huth and Muniesa's legs as well.
I'd put my money on a fully match fit Robert Huth dealing with that ninety five percent of the time.

I think he's still about a month or so away in terms of fitness.

While that is mostly correct, if Wilson had conceded that goal people would be all over him like a rash.

You know how it works. Once is a mistake, twice your a liability, thrice you get sold (or in our case, sit in the reserves for 4 years)

Grew into the game.
Shaky in the first half, played really well in the second.

Totally agree, Sidwell got crucified for a similar thing, don't think Huth is ready for me, stick with Wilson for Newcastle, he isn't playing badly imo.

A fully fit Huth is a better player than a fully fit Wilson. I'm happy for Wilson to continue whilst Huth regains fitness but there is no question as to who I'd play when they're both fit.
Huth and Shawcross have been at the crux of our success over the last four/five years. Wilson has played his part but he just isn't Robert Huth. Huth is also miles more dangerous when we have set pieces in the opposition box.
Can't wait until he's back properly.

You're assuming he's going to be the same player.
All I remember about Huth is that in the first few months under Hughes, he looked terribly uncomfortable with the way we were expected to play. Looked edgy on the ball for most part.
Amazing under Pulis, unconvincing under Hughes. Can't see him just replacing Wilson as soon as he is fully fit.

Would anyone start him against Newcastle?
I would.
I personally would not. As much as I love the big German youth and as much as I know that he is a far superior option to Wilson, I still feel he is a in need of a few more run-outs before returning to the heart of our defence. Hopefully, he can play a couple of u21/friendlies/reserve games during the international break and, if all goes to plan, be good to go when we return to our league duties.

As with others. I want to see Huth back in the team on Monday. No questions asked, just give it a go.

It will be interesting to see how Huthy recovers from his latest 90 minutes, he may indeed need a little longer. Wilson has done OK, so I don't know why so many on here are panicking, on the other hand, those early games under Hughes were VERY tippy tappy, hence why Huth looked shaky.
Now, with the midfield playing closer to the CB's I dont think our giant German would be quite so exposed in future
Time will tell

Seems to me that Huth has been injured during most of Hughesy's tenure so it's difficult to say whether he can or can't play 'the Hughes way' {whatever that may be.} I reckon there's always a place for a defensive rock, and Mark and his team would also appreciate that. Fact is Robert was having sugar injections in his knee and despite that he was first choice in Cup and league games last season, and arguably over used, until he finally broke down in the Swansea game, around about November last year, when he was understandably found wanting for pace. The triumvirate of Huth, Ryan and Bego was sadly missed last xmas. I thought Ryan played with a smile and a swagger and didn't need to do so much mauling because he'd got his telepathic mucker alongside him again last night, Altidore's sucker punch aside, it marked a return to the stoic 'non shall pass' attitude through the middle of the backline for me {it was a bufffering stream though}. Huth looked knackered towards the end and that contributed to his decision to slam dunk, rather than track the man. But I'm happy to see a bit of that, as long as that's not an indication that he won't regain his pace. We looked stronger and more confident in defence with him in the team. If Huth's back in the back four I can get thoughts of playing a 3-5-2 out of me head.

I personally think anyone expecting Huth to be back starting for us in the league is going to be disappointed. Hughes seems perfectly happy with the current pairing and I don't think there's ever been any notion of Wilson just being 'cover' for Huth. I think Huth is for cups and back-up from here on in.

Just like Ryan, Huth is more than capable of playing football where necessary. Crucially he defends consistently well and as a defender that is really all that matters! If Huth is fit Huth should play. It's really that simple. Good to hear he's seemingly played well.

Hughes is pleased with Stoke's defensive solidity this season, adding: "We've conceded five in five, a goal a game, which is less than our average for last year."
