Looking down the list relating to the inital question there are some interesting names on there 1-Peter Thorne(80) 2-Mark Stein(72) 3-Wayne Biggins(63) 4-Garth Crooks(53) 5-Ricardo Fuller(50) 6-Brendan O'Callaghan(47) 7-Graham Kavanagh(45) 8-Jon Walters(41) 9-Lee Chapman(38) 10-Peter Crouch(34) Impressive return from Kav, didn't realised he bagged that many.

Thanks. Is that list League and Cup matches? I'd like to see just League, cup games against weak opposition tend to distort these things. In fact I think what I would like to see is League only and more importantly top division only. Only then would we really know who is top dog. You can't really trade 3rd flight goals against top flight goals. You can. It's about what you do for the team at the time. I love Jonny Walters, but you're not gonna tell me he's a higher calibre goalscorer than Steino or Thorne. Well for me you can win a "Stoke City Hero" award in League 2 or League 3, but a "best player" award when the club has had so many years in the top flight has to come from someone who did it for us at the highest level.

What about Mike Sheron 39 goals in 77 games. Only with us two seasons but must rate as one of our most prolific scorers and up their with Mark Stein. Sorry my mistake Mike Sheron was missed, poor by me Actually was missed due to the lack of games it took him to score his goals.

Correct Mr Hyde, which brings me to my next question, even though the majority were in the third tier is he underrated in terms of his status amongst Stoke fans. Yes, massively! Thorne was a legend (And I don't use that word lightly) You could pretty much guarantee with Thorne in your side, that all you had to do was put the ball in box & we'd chalk a number up next to our name on the scoreboard. ..... Did he ever score one from outside the box? I can't think of one off the top of my head! having said that.....is he really underrated anyway? i thought pretty much everyone accepted him as a legend?

Watch this video of Thorne, the number of goals he scored where he ends up on his arse is unreal, it sure worked for him though My cousin who actually played for Stoke's youth team as a striker in the early 90's used to refer to him as the ultimate brawler and when you watch that, I know what he means. How often do his goals involve him either climbing all over someone (00:51 for a good one) or literally throwing himself in there to score? Quite a lot lol. Still, I wonder if Peter Thorne in his prime could cut it in the Premiership, guess we'll never know. He never had the chance.

Shame Kavanagh is looked at with such contempt. agreed mate, i always loved Kav.... and O'Connor too! i was lucky enough to meet O'Connor when he was playing for us and can only say what a thoroughly nice guy he was. I've got a programme he signed somewhere (no idea where mind). I forget which year it was but Kevin Keen was still playing for us so uhmm, around the time those two were playing together. I think David Oldfield was as well. Never got to meet Kav but really loved him when he played for us and as a youngster at the time, it broke my heart when he left.

I walked out with Kevin Keen when I was a mascot, despite being about a 6 inches taller than him. Was a really top bloke as most the lads seemed to be then, it was about two weeks prior to the Icelandic takeover.
