Correct Mr Hyde, which brings me to my next question, even though the majority were in the third tier is he underrated in terms of his status amongst Stoke fans.

mumf although Ritchie played until 1975, obviously he didn't hit 80 goals that year to overtake Thorne's total.

Correct Mr Hyde, which brings me to my next question, even though the majority were in the third tier is he underrated in terms of his status amongst Stoke fans. Yes, massively! Thorne was a legend (And I don't use that word lightly) You could pretty much guarantee with Thorne in your side, that all you had to do was put the ball in box & we'd chalk a number up next to our name on the scoreboard. ..... Did he ever score one from outside the box? I can't think of one off the top of my head!

My second hero WD, first was Sheron.
I remember his run of form when he hit 30 goals, something stupid like 22 in 18 games, including 4 in one game and 2 more hat tricks through March/April/May then got injured just before the play offs.

No don't think he ever did score from outside the box.
One thing is for sure, TP would have loved him.

Remember it well mate. He was a machine during that run!! The classic "fox in the box" striker. Worked his nuts off too!!

He had two ace songs an all with "In The Town Where I Was Born" & "Posh Spice Is A Slapper"!

Also seeing how important the delivery is too a fox in the box is it also strange how badly thought of Bjarni Gudjonsson is of by so many Stoke fans.

Said it myself at the Leicester game that if we had Peter Thorne in the box, we'd have won that game easy. In this day and age a striker is expected to do so much more than stick it in the onion bag but my god was Thorney great at doing that!

Only thing that I would say about Thorne was that he tended to score his goals all at once, rather than hit a single winner each game. Not that it matters I suppose, but you'd probably prefer the latter given the choice.

Also looking down the list I was surprised to see Kav so high; not sure why. Anybody not mentioned who surprises you?

I think Thorne was and is highly rated by Stoke fans.
Stein,Ric,Crouch,Sheron all better though. Ritchie and Greenhoff,Crooks,Heath,Chapman
Bertschin,Saunders maybe.

Is that list League and Cup matches? I'd like to see just League, cup games against weak opposition tend to distort these things. In fact I think what I would like to see is League only and more importantly top division only. Only then would we really know who is top dog. You can't really trade 3rd flight goals against top flight goals.

Thorney is still a legend to me and my all time Stoke hero. I was proper gutted when we flogged him to Cardiff.
That 30 goal season was amazing. 4 goals against Chesterfield and hat-tricks against Bristol City and Bristol rovers.
Magic days.
Will we ever see his kind against at the Brit?

Watch this video of Thorne, the number of goals he scored where he ends up on his arse is unreal, it sure worked for him though That's hilarious, I'd never noticed that before. I always wondered if he'd been hypnotised, 18 months into his Stoke career, when he suddenly transformed from bumbling idiot into rampant goal machine. Now I know for sure. "Mr Thorne, you are feeling very sleepy. When you wake up you will stop being Kyle Lightbourne's crappy sidekick, and you will be an unstoppable goal machine, scoring hat-tricks every week against whichever team from Bristol you are playing, you will fire Stoke to Wembley and score the winner in the final and, er, all your goals will be scored while you are lying on your arse."

I love Jonny Walters, but you're not gonna tell me he's a higher calibre goalscorer than Steino or Thorne.

What about Mike Sheron 39 goals in 77 games. Only with us two seasons but must rate as one of our most prolific scorers and up their with Mark Stein.

I cant quite remember
