Really, really like that team.
I wonder how Bojan is feeling though?

I'm not totally convinced by playing NZonzi, Adam and Ireland as the midfield 3. Still hopefully, I'm wrong about that. Do we know who the subs are?

Sunderland's team is pretty "strong" as well so should be a good game.

I think that is a very good team.
- Trying Adam and Nzonzi as deeper midfielders (Although I think we will miss Whelan) - Ireland back in - Diouf centrally - Arnautovic on the right (He played very well against Fulham there) - Huth back in for Wilson. - Assaidi getting gametime.

Well, there's plenty of attacking intent there. It'll be interesting to see how we get on in the middle of the park without Whelan shielding the back four, covering and tackling. The only issue is the lack of game time for Bojan, but maybe he'll get the last 30 mins in place of Ireland, as he is just returning from injury.

Yeah that's going to be very interesting - a lot of pressure on Charlie to prove that he can put in the leg work and time the tackles as part of a '2' in a 4-2-3-1.

Not having Whelan in midfield (as Jezza points out) is going to be interesting - neither Adam nor NZonzi have the discipline Whelan does. Hey Ho, makes for an exciting life!

Charlie proved he could perform that role last season - his introduction into the deeper role at Nzonzi's expense was arguably the catalyst to our good run. Quite how the 2 will perform together is another question... Intriguing though. And a good team, albeit I would perhaps have played Sidwell instead of Nzonzi, to give him 90. Exciting night ahead hopefully.

I can't remember the last time we fielded a match day squad containing none of: Walters, Whelan and Wilson!
Can anyone remember how long ago it was?

Decent enough that, I'm guessing/hoping it'll be N'Zonzi as the holding midfielder with Adam having a bit more licence to move forward if needs be.

Is this the first time Adam and Ireland have featured in the same XI? Interesing to see how Chucky Adam does deeper.
And Diouf as line-leader gets another airing. I'm not convinced - but we'll see. It'd certainly give us more options if he proves he can do that job.

Thing is, when he replaced N'Zonzi last season, Hughes brought in Walters to play where Ireland will play tonight.
Walters dropped very deep and did a lot of Charlie's leg work for him, not really sure that Ireland will do the same.

It doesn't harm to see what options we have in certain positions, and whether Adam can cut it in the middle two and Diouf can play alone up top are questions that need answering.

Yes I'm loving the attacking potential of that front 3 but could get overrun in midfield depending on their set up. Good to see Muniesa and Huth back in too!

No - Ireland and Adam have played in the midfield together but with Whelan behind them and, I think, Walters in the centre as well???? EDIT: I see Paul has made the same point.

The whole Butland and Sorensen thing i find slightly baffling. Our league number 2 goalkeeper, as in, him on the bench is Sorensen. Our number 1 keeper is Begovic. Yet when it comes to cup games, Sorensen's still our number 2 goalkeeper, as in, him on the bench and from out of nowhere, Jack Butland, who is by definition our number 3 league goalkeeper is our number 1 cup keeper. Now that all makes Sorensen in actual fact our number 3 keeper, because he never plays, yet he's always number 2. Which means 2+2=number 3. Confusing as to why Butland is our cup number 1 yet league number 3, that's 1+3=what's going on there then? I know what you're thinking, it makes perfect sense
