Just seen it again. Was basically standing on the post. Gets caught Out on identical free kicks too often.

Seemed poor positioning to me. He gave himself no chance against a great free kick and kicker. But gave him plenty to aim at.

Agree, give Butland a chance.
Bego's been poor, weak hands against Hull And Villa, cost us yesterday.
The free kick goal, poor positioning.

Sorry cant see how Bego is to blame in any way shape or form for yesterday for the free kick he set up a massive wall to protect one side of the goal and took up a decent position between the last man and his post. Sometimes you just have to doff your cap at a good goal and dream of us having someone with the same ability with a dead ball.Surely by putting someone on the post in that position is asking for trouble bringing the attacking team right on top of the goal. For the first equalizer we had three men virtually on the line without a QPR player in touching distance and still contrived to gift them a goal. Bego as been poor by his own standards but to talk about drop him already is way over the top.I for one think the best bit of business the club did this summer was to keep hold of the best keeper we have had in years and long may he stay.

I wouldn't drop him but he has been decidedly dodgy so far this season.
He was all at sea for the first and I still think he could have saved the second personally.
This is on the back of a bit of an error for the Hull goal, a poor one for Bosnia and a shaky display against Leicester.
He's got plenty of credit in the bank but it's head in the sand stuff to think he is anywhere near his best so far this season.

For all the good work that's been done, there are still far too many mistakes being made. Much as we should have won that today, we shot ourselves in the foot yet again. We need somebody on the goal line with Bego at free kicks! I said exactly the same thing yesterday, if crouchy had been there by the post, he would have easily headed that clear.

I wonder if the reason he was so far over was because the wall was too big. It was massive and made up of big players. Surely his view was mega obscured.

Seeing as there is a load of old bollocks on this thread here's my two penneth.
There is absolutely no point in having a wall then standing behind it, especially with the height of the guys we had in the wall yesterday and might I add they actually jumped as well. For me that's that side of the goal is protected. Krancar brilliantly got the ball up and down with pace to stick it in the top corner. Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say BRILLIANT.
Beggo has not been at his best but to say he was at fault for the second yesterday is quite ridiculous. The only way he would have got near it was to stand further to his left and then that just opens up the other side.
There's way too many closet football coaches on here at the moment.

Is it time to put Butland in goal? Begos positioning for the free kick was a joke and his star jump for the goal was laughable!! I think if we replace wilson with huth then bego may have more confidence. I think he is probably trying to cover other players which is why he looks out of position at times.

Even at his shaky worst, and he isn't his normal sublime self, he is still better than most other keepers in this league.
He will come through it and I don't think he was at fault yesterday. He was more culpable for the first than the second in my opinion.

By standing where he did yesterday for the free kick, he may as well have pinned a bloody great target in the goal behind our wall. As soon as he and the wall lined up where they were it was pretty obvious where the ball was going to be aimed, admittedly it was a superb strike bet Bego gave himself no chance of getting to it.
He's a brilliant keeper but having a dodgy spell at the moment, it's not just one bad game, he's been at fault for much of our season so far and seemingly for Bosnia as well, I think Butland deserves a chance, he will probably play on Tuesday and if he does really well then he deserves to keep his place.

Difficult call this. Bego is Stoke's best player (bar none IMO) but he does seem to be suffering a bit of a hang-over from the close season. The World Cup experience and all the transfer talk, interviews, TV exposure, "celebrity appearances", world record goal, etc. seem to be impacting on his game (concentration and command of the penalty area).
Personally I'd stick with him, but if Butland continues to play well MH has a tough decision to make. (A bit like Matt Gillies at Leicester when he had Banks and Shilton wanting to leave.)

I have said it in the past and I will say it again being a keeper you are taught for a direct free kick, within shooting distance, you set your wall to protect one side of the goal. You then position yourself to protect the other side of the goal. If a player manages to get the ball up and over the wall and back down again from 20 yards you can only take your hat off to him and say Tek a boo son. If Begovic had however been beaten on the side that he was covering all blame goes to him and it's poor goalkeeping! On this occasion it was a great free kick by krancjar! I'm sorry, but it was awful positioning. It was nothing more than an average strike; no great pace, no great accuracy, just got it over the weak link in the wall. To suggest dropping him is laughable mind.

If a player can get the ball up and over a wall that's average size I would say was well over 6", from 20 yards then there is 0 bego can do. If he was further over behind his wall and Krancjar scored in the side bego was meant to be covering then he would also get crucified. I'm pretty sure he and Andy Quy work on free kicks and positioning a lot in training so I trust his judgement

I don't think any of you are in a position to say whether it was a good / bad free kick , shit positioning or whatever. You are allowed an opinion, but until I see one of you Lard Arses bend one in from 23 yards, or actually fly across goal (with your massive beer guts) and flip it over the bar, I'll take the goal as being a well executed piece of skill by Krancjar - remember our "wonder" goal at Man City last week, or the last time we actually got a free kick over the wall and kept it in the ground (West Ham away). We were all jumping up and down shouting "Jaskelaiinen - shit positioning" - actually I am imagining it, those around me were doing a mental about Pennant's ability. Still, don't let facts get in the way of our opinions.

Watch the save he made from Wayne Rooneys free kick at home last season again, then rewatch the Krancjar effort and if you still believe there was nothing Begovic could have done about it, we can agree to disagree and leave it at that.

I was a keeper for a long time ( at an ok standard) and I was always taught what I posted above and if a player gets it up and over then bravo. I agree it wasn't a peach of a free kick but he did well from his distance to get it up and down.

Indeed it is, and without the incredibly high standards Begovic has set for himself in recent years, we wouldn't be having this discussion. He's too good to be letting anything that isn't 'a peach' past him though, and the reason he got nowhere near an average strike is solely down to the poor position he started in. I'm sure he and Quy will know it too.
