It looked to me that Begovic wasn't set for some reason as he took the free kick. A wall is there for a purpose...to protect that side of the goal. There is no point in having a wall and then standing behind it, players at the top level will just flip in into the other corner. It was a fantastic goal, simple as that. You have a wall and he gets it up and down into the corner you just hold your hands up and say..brilliant. Its not like we had the seven dwarves in the wall is it ? I still think Bego was too far to the other side of his goal and the free kick wasn't right in the top corner and I still think it's saveable but I guess only Bego really knows that.

For me Jamo with the height of the wall and the fact that they actually jumped as well, that side of the goal is protected. If he gets it up and over then its a brilliant free kick. Sometimes you just have to admire a players ability. No blame to the keeper for me.

I thought ryan's defended well for most the game. Just a couple of instances as have been highlighted. After caulker got away for the goal ryan just held on even more.
still think ryan has got to mix his play up more. I think in 90 minutes ryan passed to three players. Bego, once. Wilson once. The rest went up to crouch. He is good at that ball and does pick crouch out, but our passes yesterday for the game were down to one of the lowest for the day. This happens when crouch plays as ryan can't resist hitting it to him and half the time it just comes back at you when you lose possession.
Wish he'd just give it to midfield more.

I'm not convinced it was as brilliant a free kick as you are saying. It was nowhere near the corner and like Jamo has said I don't think Begovic was in a good position, but I think that was all to do with the fact that for some reason he wasn't set so he was slow to react. It was a good free kick and I'm not neccessarily saying he definitely should have saved it but I've seen him and other keepers save or get closer to saving much better free kicks in the past.

Having seen it on TV , he did lose Caulker badly on the goal but even then we should not have conceded , need to improve defending as a unit at times

The irony is Crouchy is one of the best around with the ball at his feet.He bollocked Pieters twice for lumping it hopefully, instead of hitting a ball to feet.

I think Shawcross is for some reason struggling fitness wise.

What a load of over reactionary flannel from people who should know better. The OP says he was poor yesterday - maybe, but everyone has the odd poor game.
We've conceded 5 in 5. Before yesterday we had the joint third best record for fewest shots against. We were fourth for number of shots.
We've been extremely unlucky IMO not to be at least 5 points better off.

We had loads of shots vs Leicester, only about 2 were dangerous, being fourth for number of shots means nowt in terms of potency and how good the chance actually is.

If Adam had claimed it as his instead of Crouch getting the final touch, I think this Shawcross thread wouldn't be on here IMO.

Jamo the other problem is that Bego chose a fairly big wall. He's got five big lads in there. Now if he stands behind that, he's got no chance of seeing the ball and when you're hitting a free kick as hard as that, you've got no chance of saving it. Only Bego knows if he could have stood nearer the middle of the goal, but if his view was obscured, I can fully understand why he didn't.

On another day, he misses it and Crouch smashes it up, although it might have actually hit Crouch in the face lol. Either way, just bad luck. Still Ryan was pretty all over the place on that goal to be fair.

I think it's a bit rich for anyone to highlight Ryan's grappling when everybody else does it. You only have to look at how Crouch was persistently fouled against Leicester last week to see that. I also didn't think Ryan was anywhere near as bad as some are suggesting yesterday. He got done by Caulker for the first goal but then he wasn't the only one to not cover themselves in glory for that one. Generally his overall performance was solid and his use of the ball was decent, he's had better days admittedly but it wasn't that bad was it? I thought on the whole the defenders performed quite well individually which makes it all the harder to take when we concede soft goals. We should have been out of sight yet again but if you don't put teams to bed things like this will continue to happen. I was bloody frustrated walking away from Loftus Road yesterday believe me. For some reason I can't attach the photograph from the Sentinel, of two QPR players holding Crouch before a corner and a 3rd player heading for Diouf. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/QPR-2-Stoke-City-2-talking-points-Potters-develop/story-22958539-detail/story.html?
