3 - 0 at home to the Baggies years ago. Mark Chamberlain was unplayable. Baggies entered Stoke half 3 times. Once to kick off and 3 breakaways from defence. Never seen a winning team so slaughtered before or since. Still shell-shocked

The draw at Hillsborough the year before was even worse. Imagine how those at Bramall Lane in 1947 must have felt! sorry march was it 71 ? anyway it was the hillsborough game , there were so many TBH I thought you were referring to the draw at Villa Park which we should have won. And then we were robbed at Goodison.

Birmingham City - 7-0 thrashing, whole squad on the transfer list, fans attacking players and storming the Directors Box. We were staring into the abyss with seemingly no way back. Bristol Rovers - 4-0 followed shortly after by a similar thumping away at Gillingham. I left those games thinking it was only a matter of time before we ended up in the Conference. Losing 2-0 to a 9 man Milwall side was also fairly gut wrenching. That Millwall game was a complete embarrassment Dave and i remember going down to London for the weekend on the Friday morning and being excited with the news on the way that we'd signed Lee Collins from Villa Funny that. We went everywhere in those days and after getting thumped by someone the week before at home, we said enough was enough and we weren't doing Milwall. My cousin piped up that we'd only go if we signed someone and lo and behold, Friday afternoon, I get the call to say we'd signed Lee Collins and off we traipsed to Milwall. :-) Didn't they have 9 men after about 20 mins and they absolutely battered us. Horrible days yet fond memories. I remember fans arguing on the way out of the ground that day because a very small section of the away support clapped the players of the pitch.

Nah the City game was an anti climax all round, so the goal didnt kill me. We had our final already in the semi! Gutters - Any loss to Vale, but the FA Cup game in the rain (Dave Regis and the mud) was gutting The 4-0 playoff defeat to Walsall was really disappointing! The team had no heart at all at the end of a long season There are just too many. Now I am thinking of it I am in a bad mood.... Didn't we lose 3-1 at walsall? I'm sure kav scored a scorcher!

Bristol Rovers 1-4 1999. Blyth Spartans. Chester 1992. Oxford 1-2 1990 That Bristol rovers game was a shocker. It was the only time I ever sat in the John Smith stand as I had a free ticket. I was so incensed that the people around me disappeared in the second half. I could have easily been thrown out for my tirade towards the dug out. My Bro had to calm me down lol.

Brian Little the manager, what a pile of shite he turned out to be after a promising start. Take Thorne, Kav, keen and Larus out of that line up and you wouldn't put the other 7 in a pub XI. Bryan small I ask you, he was cack.

I couldn't go to that game - but I was there the previous round. A 4-0 win over another non-league team, Tilbury. I was expecting another stroll and if I remember correctly we already knew the opponents in the next round was Wrexham, so me, as a naive 14 year old was already thinking about the 6th round. I guess you could say that was the night I grew up to be the cynical misery I am today!

I was 9 and the morning after going to school was just truly awful..... One gem echoing down from the seats that night from someone behind us was: " Ive seen more life in the cemetry up the road Stoke" always tickled me that did - never forget that

I'm one of the Cheshire Stokies - small in number if not in heart. I was the only Stokie in my school in Northwich and didn't I know it that next day. Getting shat on by non league teams wasn't something my schoolmates were going to let pass without comment!

In fact I would argue Stoke were in control until Ward threw the ball into his own net >> & then the complete lack of heart mainfested itself, complete collapse.

FA Cup games.....
Telford (numerous times) - always hard work, lost one didnt we? Bath City at home...(went to the replay, was wet, won it easy) Nuneaton home and away (away....rained, open stand, last minute defeat, although we missed a sitter after!) Hartlepool
Kids nowadays wont believe how unbelievably shit we were in any cup from 1980-2009! Apart from the FLT :-) (We won it two times you know)

For me, our very worst humiliations haven't actually been that crushing, they just made me angry or stunned. The Birmingham 0-7, Liverpool 0-8, all the hammerings under Little, the embarrassing cup defeats: each memorable in its own horrific way, but I wouldn't say I was particularly "crushed".
However there are some games where I can still vividly remember the vomit-inducing churn in the pit of my stomach as I walked back to the car, struggling to comprehend what actually just happened, knowing I'm going to be haunted by this memory for the rest of my life, wishing I could somehow take the result back, wishing I had never got into football in the first place, wishing I'd never met Stoke, and worst of all hating myself for allowing myself to believe today was going to be anything other than an unmitigated disaster.
The memory of these moments are so painful they stop me from enjoying the good moments properly. We scored our fourth goal at Wembley, and my first thought was: if we lose from here, I am never going to recover from this.
They are the crushing defeats.
Coventry 0-1, 1987 Portsmouth 1-2, 1990 Oxford 1-2, 1990 Chester 0-1, 1992 Port Vale 1-3, 1993 Port Vale 0-1, 1993 Oldham 0-1, 1994 Port Vale 0-1, 1995 Man City 2-5, 1998 Walsall 2-4, 2001 Chelsea 1-2, 2009
And a draw that felt like a defeat: Bury 2-2, 1991
