This twat has somehow been nominated for the Ballon d'or alongside Messi and Ronaldo Tbf goalkeepers will always get overlooked for the award or defenders for that matter. So in a way its refreshing to have a goalkeeper in the nominees.

I can see it. It looks like when he was at Schalke though.
There was one the other week where the attacked was in but down the wing, he shouldn't have run out, he got the ball but then clearly fouled the player, nowt was given. He's just an eejit.

Crap can't get the link to work..... That's about 3 years old. The man is superb keeper, everyone focusses on his roaming but he's a superb shot stopper, saves around a third of penalties he faces and dominates 1 on 1s, the World Cup final comes to mind when despite going through on goal a few times Argentina didn't have a shot on target. If you think his roaming is stupid have a look for some of the keeper's who have tried to copy, the results are somewhat amusing.

He may be very unlikable but no one can deny he is head and shoulders above any other goalkeeper in the world.

I can. I really don't like the way he keeps goal. Massive flapper too when flustered.

Other than being a great read on the effects of depression on a professional sportsman who lives his life in the spotlight, the Robert Enke book is an interesting read on the German sweeper keeper role, and how he was not of that school, having played so much outside Germany. He took far less chances than the likes of Kahn then (and Neuer now), played the percentages more and focused more on shot saving than haring out of his area at a moment's notice. He was destined to be Germany's keeper in 2010 before his sad demise; if so, Neuer may just have remained a Schalke sideshow act.
