As much as I have loved this lad's footballing ability, he has walked away from his millwall trial, and opened the door there for Matthew etherington to walk through it,he is obviously a millionaire who doesn't have to work, but he is only 31 for Christs sake, what an absolute waste of talent!

Even after the Cup Final season, his empty promises about becoming our player of the season, only to give up soon after leaves me with nothing but resentment for the bloke. Once a dickhead, always a dickhead.

I hold no hatred for Pennant whatsoever. In the FA cup final season he was absolutely brilliant and the perfect winger in the Pulis system. There was stories about him misbehaving but none were ever confirmed to be true, and he never publicly expressed being pissed off even though Pulis was playing people such as Shotton and delap in his position. If what he had done was truly so bad there is no chance Coates would of allowed him to sign a new contract. Last season he played very little as he didn't really fit the Mark Hughes system of cutting inside and scoring goals, he's a player who prefers to get to the byline and cross the ball in. He gained us two points away at west ham, and lost us two points at home to Everton. But in my opinion there is no true reason for Pennant to be hated by any stoke fan.

i never hated him for anything he did at Stoke.....he frustrated the hell out of me though simply because of how inconsistent he could be at times. as has been pointed out above, brilliant in 2011 but after that he could be great and influential or equally could be completely dreadful and a liability and also at times completely absent.
i don't think there's any doubt (whether his indiscretions at Stoke were proved or not) that he's got an ego on him and thinks he's above the rules..let's not pretend it's only Stoke where there were rumoured issues with his attitude and behaviour, he's had them at every club he's been at and THAT makes me hate him in the same way i hate all ego-ridden footballers. fair play for what they do on the pitch but i'm allowed to hate him as soon as he's off it in the same way and for the same reasons i hate virtually all of the egotistical wankers.

I hold no grudge towards Pennant, overall he was a very good player for us and took us up a level. Turned sower between him and Pulis, why ? Who knows, there was never any reason for him not to play in terms of football ability as Shotts was his only direct competition.
My guess is his heart is no longer in the game, and when you don't give a shit about something your unlikely to give 100% in that area/field or whatever it is.

I can't hate Pennant. For those who despise him, he was one of the best players in that cup run especially in the semi final. We should remember that.
His career has fallen away from him. He's not interested anymore. He's a 31 year old who wants to perhaps enjoy the last few years of his party-life and then settle down. He's made his money. He can forget about football now. DJ'ing in Liverpool when you should be finding a club and staying fresh? Clearly shows his priorities.
Etherington will be more professional, and most likely land a contract.

Pity rather than hate.
When he looks back in years to come I have a feeling he'll wonder just what he could have achieved.
Then again he may be too busy snorting coke off a hookers' tits to really care.

allways liked pennant as previously mentioned his form in the cup run was immense, however despite his fantastic free kick at west ham i will [sadly] remember him for his awful challenge in the last minute v everton to give away a pen and throw away 3 hard earned points. perhaps i am reading too much into this but for me its no coincidence that he did not play for us again. draw your own conclusions.

Well said, I regard the Pennant as a master stroke by Pulis and one of the most influential signings in our history. His signing marked a point where we moved from being happy to survive to being an established Premiership team. I am convinced we wouldn't have got to Wembley without his contribution. One of the best crossers of a ball I have seen at Stoke. The positives far outweigh any negatives. Yes he might be an idiot, I don't know him personally, but tbh I am not interested what he does off the pitch. That's what managers are for.

Superb during our cup final season, massive influence.
His career derailed again when he fell out with Pulis, lord knows why he can't get it together at a lower level, I can only assume he doesn't want to and doesn't need to play anymore

His career derailed again when he fell out with Pulis, lord knows why he can't get it together at a lower level, I can only assume he doesn't want to and doesn't need to play anymore Its a shame to see someone with his obvious ability pretty much waste it. I remember reading an interview with Liam Brady, who coached him in the youth team at Arsenal and he said that Pennant had the most natural raw ability he had ever seen in a player, but he has also done well to get himself to the stage in his life where he is now (ie. not in prison, drugs or both). That said, IF he didn't have problems outside of football, he never would have signed for Stoke. Although I tired of his antics towards the end, he did play a huge part In our run to the cup final PLUS he scored a beauty against the Arse in the same season.

Perhaps you could also remember the goal he scored against the Arse when we stuffed them 3-1 before the Cup Final. Perhaps you might recall his freekick goal against West Ham. I well remeber him giving that penalty away against Everton. In that fracas he commotted 2 fouls! He has immense talent which was not allowed to be expressed in the latter years under TP. When he committed that penalty I really thought it was all over for him. Very sorry that he walks away from Milwaall. Probably sums him up.

I was there for all those moments you mentioned. I am not slagging off pennant, he was a good signing for us all in all, its just my lasting memory was his stupidity at a time when his team mates had put a right shift in. The feeling of being left disappointed has been shared by more fans than me, and at more clubs than ours. Its a shame, but there you go, thats sport for you.

Echo the thoughts on here. I live in Oz but liked what I saw of Pennant whenever I could get to see a game. I brought my son over to England though and took to his first Stoke game ever - the Everton one. He's only 13 and hardly ever heard him swear. Then at the 90th minute, he says to me 'Who's that bloody idiot' as the penalty came. So he'll be remembered I guess as class to some and 'bloody idiot' to others.

Unfortunately even for me the lasting memory is of him doing his very best to give away a penalty in injury time thus undoing all the hard work his team mates had put I . That was his end at stoke. I have a feeling he will not find it at all easy staying on the right track in life.
