When first met the mrs she was living in Burton Bradstock just outside Bridport. The. locals in the Dove Inn would drink pints of real scrumpy with a shot of gin on top. Bloody loopy juice. Excise Duty was not payable in those days, 1976, so remember scrumpy was around 30p a pint. Good grief mate ! That's an unusual one ...a pint of Scrumpy with a Gin on top ! ....not being a lover of Gin I'd take a rain check on that I think

Exactly so mate ......Cider should be Strong and Still....and not for preference Ice cold advertising as you say does work .....and don't get me started on these flavoured things , Strawberry and Lime Cider for gods sake ! Outlandish To be fair there is a swedish, strawberry and lime cider in aldi, also a wild berry one that are beautiful! This sort of talk can lead Bispham Potter into a blind rage. Be careful when you talk about unholy fruit bastardisations of his beloved ale and cheese...it doesn't sit well with him, at all

Coming from Somerset I have sampled a few. Seen grown men shite themselves due to the scrumpy as well.
I remember drumming at a cider brew festival and we were given some tokens for the brew bar. Sampled something that had the appearance of thick gravy. One mouthful and my head instantly went hot. Still occasionally drink Thatchers Gold but can't stomach the rough stuff any more.

Made 10 litres for my 1st go Apple and raspberry, need look into buying a apple press if I do it again if this tastes alright there was too much waste using a juicer. Bottle it in 3 weeks and then ready drink in March. Need think of a name for my brew now

is home brewing expensive? It's the cost of the hardware; fermentation bucket, pressure barrel etc, where the expense in brewing your own beer lies. {Probably sort it from Wilko for under £30}. The more you brew, you offset the original outlay. Once you've got the gear a brewkit {containing malt and yeast}, and a bag of sugar costs about £11 to make 40 pints of bitter. Cheap enough if you brew it right and it tastes acceptable. For lager you generally need to Co2 it, which adds to the cost. A few demijohns, sugar and foraged ingredients and you're up and running for wines. Spirits are a different ball game, you need a funky still. Home brewing is highly recommended. Hic.

I think the suspense would kill me. Good luck. (You can buy Weston's Old Rosie in glass 2 litre flagons quite reasonably, I reckon they'd be ideal for your bottling, and you'd have the added pleasure of emptying them.} You've got me intrigued, I'm looking into it..... was it a kit from Tesco you've used Matt?
