Sixteen teams receive a bye into the second round, including Vale this time for some reason.
I've not paid any attention to this competition since we last won it when I was 11, can someone briefly explain why there are byes?
Cheers.
Oh, in before "Google is your friend", I can't be arsed.

16 clubs are awarded byes straight through to round 2 in an in-house pre-draw leaving the remaining 32 League 1 and 2 clubs to compete in round 1. Teams are drawn in couples within each section and games are played on a knock-out basis with the first drawn club playing at home. "Pre-draw" Any fan of George Carlin will find that amusing. How the fuck do you pre-heat an oven? There are 2 stages an oven can be in, heated or unheated. You want me to pre-board the plane, what, i get on it before i get on it? This prefixed use of the word 'pre' to make something sound important. It's not. That's me paraphrasing the great man.

Crewe are 2-0 down and going nowhere, that makes a change.

Crewe are 2-0 down and going nowhere, that makes a change. Considering their current league form, they'd give their left bollock if it meant they could go nowhere. Possibly their right as well. And their glans penis.

Crewe 3 down, goalkeeping error, boos echoing around the empty seats at Gresty Road.

Crewe are being owned by Rochdale this season aren't they? That's eight goals on two games. At this rate Dario will be back in charge.

Competition barely gets a mention on the BBC web site, tut tut. It's not all about Wellbeck.

Competition barely gets a mention on the BBC web site, tut tut. It's not all about Wellbeck. I'd rather watch all of tonight's JPT games back to back followed by a couple of hours coverage of the groundsman mowing the grass than that fiasco masquerading as a contest in North West London tomorrow night.

Suggestion from Crewe supporting friends is that the money they raised from the recent Westwood and Powell signings has gone 'missing'. Or when I say missing I mean invested in a board members struggling business which has not been returned.
They really are shit this year. Davis has messed about in the transfer market but I do feel like he has his hands tied to an extent. He did an excellent job in his first 2 years in charge. Its hard to judge how bad a job he is doing with what is going on in the back ground.
I hope the days of Crwho taking local talent away are on there way out now Stoke seem to be gearing the academy side up in a reasonable manner. It wasn't so long ago these wankers were lording it over us. When I moved to Nantwich 6/7 years back there was hardly any Stoke on show and it was mainly glory boys, Crewe. Now Stoke shirts are everywhere and everyone wants to talk Stoke. Happy days!

I can remember a few calls for Davis to replace Pulis a few seasons ago. Deary me. It's got nothing to do with Davis, the board have totally stiffed him selling or releasing their best players for a lot of money or to get the high earners off the wage bill. He's having to play academy kids that simply aren't ready or aren't good enough. Davis has worked wonders with loan players previously but now the finances have been squeezed further he can't even use that avenue. The only people to blame are on the board.
