When you look at our business compared to other clubs the management team have done a cracking job. Improving an already strong squad without putting our clubs future at risk (take note Hull, QPR and West Ham). Really pleased that we've got rid of some of our bit part players and kept our crown Jewells and important squad players.
When you look at our squad
GK - Bego, Sorro, Jack
RB - Bardsley, GCam, Wilko, Wilson
CB - Ryan, Wilson, Huth, GCam, Muni, Tex
LB - Eric, Muni
DCM - NZonzi, Whelan, Sidwell, GCam, Palacios, Muni
AM - Ireland, Adam, Bojan, Walters
WING - Moses, Arno, Ossi, Odom, Walters
STR - Mame, Crouch, Walters, Odom.
If we can avoid injuries (touch wood) were strong.

We have a really good squad now. This was shown in the Portsmouth game where we made 9 changes and still had a strong team.

Keeping Shawcross and Begovic is massive for us.
The loss of Odemwingie is a body blow for sure and my only concern is how we replace his goals. He would have been good for 10 goals this season so we may well have to find them from another source now.

We have a really good team now and its brilliant to see the attacking options that we now have. I would love to see us next summer to buy in a class player as we have hardly spent anything over the last 2 season. I know that is being greedy especially after we spent a fortune previously but a bit of class on top of that would be quality

Looks good on paper. Only trouble is there's 9 players too many on there. We're only allowed 25

Without a doubt! this is the best squad we've had in years, decent cover in all positions and plenty of pace in the final 3rd. All done on a sensible budget as well, making it the best window we've ever had for me.

Excellent squad. Would be great if we could get to a final in one of the cups and maybe even european football next year. More importantly consistently trying to win football matches with good football.

Amazing how we have kept out CROWN JEWELS. Not even any serious interest for them either. Maybe we have some angry bloke answering the phones regarding transfers and telling them all FECK OFF!

I was brought up in the Greenhoff/Hudson era, but for me we now have the strongest Squad we have ever had. This is a tough league, a lot of teams have strengthened, the difference will be down to our coaching and management team getting the tactics right in each game.

To return to the original post subject, yes I agree the club have done excellent business this window. They have demonstrated a sound business sense addressing the shortfalls in the 2014-14 side that achieved 9th place and doing it on the back of a lot of hard work during the previous 12 months to prepare for some very financially sound trading. Some of the work did not bear the fruit desired, e.g. Riviere, but some could be preparing the way for the future e.g. Yamelenko; these things have a habit of coming round again.
I am particularly pleased that the trading will not damage the existing team work, which takes a long time to build up. How some clubs think they can maintain team form buying or selling virtually a whole team (as MH did at QPR) is beyond me, maybe I'm old fashioned. Retaining Ryan and Bego demonstrates to me that the club must have the right atmosphere for players of their ability to wish to remain and do a job for us.
Well that is chapter 1 of the 2014-15 season over, now the hard work starts welding the squad into an effective force, or should I now say forces as MH has the depth of talent to pick a very strong XI for any situation or opposition and the luxury of resting players who may be suffering from a knock or strain.
Investment in the next generation of players will, I'm sure, also bear fruit and if the finances can continue to be kept sound then we will eventually see future investment in the fixed assets, but that is dependent on supporters consistently filling the ground.

Business is good, but I wonder if the Yarmolenko deal was anything more than a bid some time ago. Was there any contact yesterday, did we consider a higher bid? Ukraine doesn't sound as coubntry I would like to stay in, if I got other options. Kranjcar did leave Kiev late yesterday, after talk of it quite early.
