He really was fantastic today.
No number of superlatives would do his performance justice.

Can we start to merge the shawcross threads now ? Ffs !
Top top performance today and im made up ,I know I'm not going to get a lot of love on here for this but he was pretty poor against hull and even worse against villa
I think this shawcross for England on the three performances is a load of bollocks quite frankly , tin hat on !

We are the feature game for SNF on Sky - let's hope that doesn't put in the shop window for a few big bids over the next couple of days.
Fantastic game and fantastic leadership today too

He is immense. It's not like he plays alongside a world class defence, yet he still makes is look solid.

Its just a little bit knee jerky for me sorry (not trying to sound like a pompus twat )but that is football and supporters tbh

I love Ryan to bits and he's an excellent defender but he still needs to add quality distribution to his locker. Hopefully this will come through confidence and trust in Hughesy's alternative interpretation of football...

Fuck them. England's loss is Stokes gain. All I know is that there is no English centre-half who is as good as our Ryan at the basic nuts-n-bolts of being a centre-half (positioning, the ability to read a game, throwing your body on the line and the ability to defend set-pieces).

He's a top defender - if others can't see it then bollox too em.

I very rarely say this about a player but he can't be far off legendary status for Stoke. He has been faultless since joining us and being with us through our rise from the championship (apart from the first few games in our first season, but I'll ignore them).

His form this season more than merits an England call up. Hodgson has reportedly called up Chambers because he has 5 injuries at the back. You telling me there are 5 better centre halves in this country better than Shawcross, let alone 5 English ones? He should be in that squad, simple as that!

Back to his very best today, perhaps because he had a proper defender playing right back so that Ryan could concentrate on his own job.

SSSSSHHHHHHH will people please stop banging on about Shawcross -- for Engshyte
I certainly dont want him ANYWHERE NEAR that fucking train wreck of an international setup
(remember they couldnt even beat Costa Fucking Rica in a meaningless rubber when the time came - no guts - no pride - no hope)
he's simply - too good for em !
and he's a legend for us already, if not in the making
ps How do you pick your new captain when its widely known he likes to mount grannies ?

If England need an old fashioned rock solid defender Shawcross is the answer! If this is enough for England is another question, but I'm sure Ryan wouldn't let anybody down when it comes to committment! Go on Ryan!

'Go on Ryan' - play for Stoke for another ten years - far more appropriate

There used to be certain man who played for Stoke City who I loved to see in the team every week. Denis Smith was his name. Ryan is right up there alongside him in my mind!

Andy Dunn ?@andydunn_SM 9m Had already written a piece for tomorrow's paper wondering what Shawcross had to do to get another England chance ...seems like today's performance makes it even more of a mystery.
Ian Dennis ?@iandennisbbc First time since February that #mcfc failed to score in PL but deserved win for #scfc. Shawcross outstanding
Jim White ?@jimw1 Also you have to think Ryan Shawcross must have done something to upset Roy. His performance today was terrific

Secondly, why would there be a load of threads about Ryan's brilliance after too disappointing team performances? That would be pretty illogical wouldn't it? I think most have pointed out that it's based on years of great displays. Today is an apt time to raise it again following a mammoth performance away to the champions on the week he is again omitted from the England squad behind a load of crap. Simple. Erik Pieters can get into the defence of Holland squad who have made it to the last two World Cup Finals. Yet people think that Ryan (our crown jewel) isn't good enough to get in the really quite shit England squad. No wonder we never get anywhere.

For what its worth here is my humble opinion of our captain. In my eyes the bloke is already a Stoke legend based on his performances since he joined the club and also the way he conducts himself off the pitch. If you need a modern day footballing role model for young kids then Ryan's your man.As long as he wears the red and white of Stoke then being selfish I am not too fussed whether he represents the national team or not.He most certainly is good enough.
Ryan Shawcross,Stoke City captain. Long may it continue.
