Sunderland messageboard They seem to think us a strange bunch, and seemingly want a rivalry - they need to understand we dont like anybody particularly! www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/oatcake.959406/page-10However what I think they are missing is that in Stoke on Trent there are a lot of Mackem and Georgie family lines through historical mining ties, my own family on my dads side were from Stanley in Durham, and a mix of Castle and Sunland - my owd man was a staunch Mackem and was guttted I chose the red and white of the Potters through my Grandad (mums side) who started taking me to Stoke from age 4 There are a lot of fans of their clubs living here though, hence a bit more on the games Also, they might have won a few league titles in 1800 or whenever it was :-) , but in recent times our teams have been down and down (then up) and are very similar, both sets of fans are traditionally working class folk, both areas were run down by Thatchers 80s, both clubs have underachieved for a long long time We are two well run clubs too. Dick measuring over average crowds and fanbase is funny, both can be fickle during bad times, but I wouldnt argue that their core base (the thick n thinners) is bigger than ours - we probably have a core base of 15000 that would come anyway now (adding in some of the new fans picked up), they can probably boast 22-25k? Bar that two very similar clubs, I dont personally have any issues with them! Newcastle however....deluded ;-)

One club City.
Per the excellent article in the Oatcake a couple of years ago most people greatly underestimate the net effect of the Vale in our city. Temptation is to say you add the 5000 or so they get to our gate to understand the impact but that's not right. You need to add the number of people who would watch the Vale were they in the Premier League. That is the real equation.
Only that way you can start to set our gates sensibly in the context of those which Sunderland get.
Someone please find that article, it makes the point far more eloquently than I am able to do, oh and it is valid one.

Stupid comments on both boards about respective clubs and towns. We have more in common with each other than differences, maybe that's the problem.

To be fair, we don't really help ourselves. This pathetic Internet war is just embarrassing. I don't like Sunderland particularly because I find their fans have this blown-up belief that they play really good attractive football and they just don't, in my opinion, but then again, we can't hide the fact for a number of years, we played nothing but hoof/pulis ball. There is ignorance on their part not accepting that we're now playing some decent attacking and ultimately far more attractive football than them, however it's tough to take the moral high ground unless you've only started supporting Stoke since the start of 2014. I certainly don't blame them for the football they play. It's been effective for a number of years and I think Poyet is doing a decent job at getting the best out of a fairly limited team. He deserves credit for that. No doubt with a few squad improvements, Sunderland wouldn't be anywhere near relegation.
Still, this whole keyboard warrior shit is pathetic. There are teams I dislike far more than Sunderland. I'd rather them in the Prem than QPR, or Dulham or any of those jokers.
To be fair, we can't shout too much about last night can we? I was disappointed we sold so few. Very disappointed at such an empty ground. What happened to selling surplus tickets in schools and local businesses for cheap? Has that ship sailed? Is it cheaper to just close the whole fucking stand?

Hope to god they get relegated. Living in the shadow of a big club. Serious deluded impressions of grandeur. Pink seats , shite atmosphere , shite accent. They should of been docked 10 points and relegated for fielding that ineligible player thats been swept under the carpet. Tossers

"I keep hearing this "deluded" thing from Stoke fans , what are we been deluded about exactly ?" A previous post: "Obviously I am biased but there's nothing dreadful about our club or our fans, we are the best in the world."

I love how they are taking the moral high ground in a good old fashioned dick measuring contest. Our club gets bigger gates than your club, blah blah. They seem to forget that they were staring down the barrel at relegation last season. Gates and size of club etc means nothing if your team is playing shit.

Tossers To be fair most of the time I hear a Stokie on tv talking I cringe, and I have the same accent...in terms of northern accents the north-east has to be the easiest on the ears.

Here is my two penneth on the subject. I never used to have a problem with Sunderland, nor did I ever actually think about them, they were another one of those non entity teams that we had no real affinity with. Then came the tirade of shite from their fucking deluded fuckwitted shit kickers on this messageboard. I realise that it is probably a minority, but it's no wonder not many people on here have any fucking time for them with the tirade of arse gravy that spewed from their stupid gobs. Rivals? Like fuck.

They seem to forget that we finish above them season after season, therefore, making us better than them. Their invalid arguments obviously highlight their bitterness and jealousy. Time to reel some in

I just can't get myself worked up about such a mediocre club, whether it's because we've met so many times even in the Championship days, or whether it's because usually games between the two teams stink worse than a dysentry-sufferer's underpants, I'm not sure.
I can't even think of any annoying celebrity fans they have- what's Steve Cram ever done wrong?
All you need to do to wind them up is call them Geordies.
Sunderland are Newcastle-lite.

It's a little known fact that the correct collective noun is a "Sunderland of cunts"

"To the Oatcake members who are almost certainly reading this, your football club is a shitty one. Nobody likes Stoke. Port Vale are a better club."Wow, that cut really deep, such hurtful comments. Is that really the best this poster could come up with?

Port Vale isnt even a place you arsewipes.
