The novel that Shawshank was based upon is not as good as the film in my opinion. it was one of 3 short stories so i learned recently mate The film follows the novel very closely with a couple of notable exceptions (improvements IMHO) around the Governor, the young criminal that knew what happened to his wife and how the ending is tied up.

Green street 2 8-)what do i win That was one off the worst films I have ever seen A football match and the winning team get parole, Jesus Christ. Stephen King wrote the stories that inspired Shawshank and Green Mile.

McVicar. Roger Daltrey in his best acting role. Great support from Adam Faith and Steven Berkoff. Much more palatable than Scum but still had loads of familiar faces like Billy Murray. Agree that McQueen was excellent actor his escape from prison movies. Limited range but my favourite actor in that genre, did all his own stunts too. There was loads of prison break scenes in his movies, including Nevada Smith.

If someone's putting Green Street 2 in, I'll mention Alien 3.
It's set on a prison planet and although it's the worst in the series, there's some top notch British actors in it who are no longer with us (Brian Glover, Pete Poslethwaite).

20,000 years in Sing Sing,Spencer Tracy and Bette Davies. I love the old black n white films. Even better if they have Jimmy Cagney in em.

Don't know if it was ever made into a film, but Green River Rising is a great book about a prison riot. It reminds me of when I was in doing a stretch.
