Nice one Our demolition of Arsenal 5-0 in the early 70's should be on but won't be, Terry Conroy scored the goal of the season .Also Rory's long throws deserve a mention as they were talked about a lot in our 1st season.

Blimey - what are the chances of all commentators being shite? I wish I could have put a bet on that happening when I was a lad! To be fair, having listened to sports commentators abroad, I'd say that British commentators are on the whole, pretty good and Barry Davies certainly was. It will be good to hear Barry again for one last time.

Always preferred Barry Davies to John Motson. Actually, would have preferred anyone to Motty! He did my napper in.
So agree, it would be good to hear him commentate again for old times sake.

Barry Davies is one of the iconic voices of sport and a welcome return to football.

Barry Davies is fantastic. Like a grumpy headmaster. "And Italy are out because they WILL NOT LEARN".

Ah yes, but it was just resting, knowing that ITV would feck things up and that the BEEB and MOTD would soon be back on air. MOTD is far from perfect but, amongst the terrestrial broadcasters, it remains top dog as far as football is concerned.

Euro '96 summed up by Barry Davies during that game against Holland "....and it's 4! and you have to say...it's magnificent!"

Euro '96 summed up by Barry Davies during that game against Holland "....and it's 4! and you have to say...it's magnificent!" Wrong sport but remember the Hockey final.... "and you have to ask, where were the Germans but frankly, who cares?" Brilliant...the best commentator ever.

There's a commentator now who used to report for one of those Granada football shows where they showed a non league game at the end of the programme. I think he's one of the ones that does commentaries nowadays. Don't know his name, but I find him really irritating! Anyone know who I'm on about?

"And Leeds will go mad. AND THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO GO MAD."
Barry Davies should commentate on literally everything.

I'm recording it, but I just caught a few glimpses of it and it looks as though they're trying to ruin it by interrupting the voices of Barry Davies and co with the annoying voices and even more annoying images of Piers Morgan and Russell Brand.

At least we caught a glimpse of Terry Conroy's goal in the 5-0 defeat of Arsenal. I was going out with a girl and didn't see the game, but ditched her to get home and watch Match of the Day! Still love seeing that goal to this day!

It was just what I expected. The BBC wallowing in a load of self congratulation supported by a load of media seeking sycophants.
If you blinked in the wrong place you would have missed a Conroy goal. I must have done because I didn't see Crouchy's goal.

Don't get too caught up in the myth that motd hates stoke, it doesn't and we saw the Conroy while a lot of other great clubs were ignored completely.

yeah, I don't think you can complain too much about us not featuring much on this nostalgic show.
In truth before the last 6 years we have never been a big part of MOTD.
The period of time which Des Lynam, Ian Wright, Piers Morgan and David Beckham are all wanking over coincided with the quarter of a century we spent washing around in the wilderness in the old Divisions 2 and 3 when we never appeared on the show at all.
Before that there were only ever 2 games shown and I don't have to tell you we were rarely the editors pick.

We were probably on more in the Durban promotion season - "Randall's in here!" - than at any other time, until our return to the top tier.

Yes the Terry Conroy goal was there (early on in the programme) but I am surprised that the Crouch goal didn't feature, especially with the improvements in technology which were able to show the shot from many angles I usualy watch the extended Stoke highlights on SNF on Sky but watch the rerun MOTD on Sunday mornings, unless we are on first of course!!!
