Who do you think is best for our current system and playing style? Looking at the Hull vs Stoke thread, there seems to be an agreement on most of the personnel, but the centre forward role seems key to me.
Hughes is obviously keen to play Diouf, but a few have suggested Odemwingie or Crouch. Who would bring Bojan into play best? I haven't seen enough of Diouf to know his strengths, but I am pretty sure Crouch and Bojan could "click".
My problem with Crouch is his lack of pace, but he holds the ball up well and links play. He needs quick players around him though.
Who is the man for the job?

Crouch imo. Saturday immediately got better on his arrival ( which if done earlier could well have seen us get back in it ?)

I reckon Diouf will be a better "away" player, when teams are attacking us with a higher defensive line we can really bang out counters with Diouf's pace.
At home I'd play Crouch with Bojan behind, running into space and feeding off Crouchie's layoffs.

Diouf but it is impossible to lead without others following. Same old problem, would like to see us play Bojan just behind him and two of Odem/Moses/Arne sticking to winger type roles. To do that we need stronger than Ireland in midfield.

Diouf.
Why we didn't play just one long ball to him or a ball over the top for him to run on to I just don't know.

He made some great runs but never got it. Then Crouch comes on and we go long ball, which is completely right but we'd gone from overly pissing about with it at the back to hitting him as and when. The tactics were just messed up on Saturday and we didn't use Diouf correctly at all.

Bit of a u-turn for me, but until Diouf has settled in and the rest understand the kind of balls he wants played through I think it would have to be Crouch going off the Villa game.

Tactically they got it spot on. We needed to make changes much earlier than we did.

I don't think they did tbh, we barely played it long when Diouf was on the pitch, it was mainly sidewards, slow nonsense. Agree that we needed to change, hoofing to Diouf would have been a good start though.

Look! Hughes has put his faith in Diouf so get used to it. The player has not done anything wrong. He has scored in the friendlies and has played in one league game. When Crouch came on Saturday the game was over as we became so predictable once more. Once again we saw the thirty and forty yard ball in the air. Why on earth do people think we started looking better. For me it would be much better to have Odemwinge on the bench! It struck me on Saturday that as good as we might be on the bench that we couldn't make a substitution without weakening the team and having to change the formation.

Is it fact that we started playing long balls when crouch came on make some think we were 'better'?

I suspect Diouf will show his worth in the away games where we are counter attacking. Horses for courses this season.

Folks may be right about Diouf Away and Crouch at home but its an about turn from the pre-season logic which was the opposite.
This was away from home when it is often backs to the wall you stick Crouch up front like some lone air traffic control tower and lump it up to as an out and hope it sticks. At home where we are cutting the opposition to ribbons we have the quicksilver Diouf to help the play flow rather than Crouch ambling about and holding the whole thing up.
We'll see...

Crouch came on and we looked gash instead of utter gash, so i'm guessing Crouch is the best after the first game of the season. Yup he's better.
