So as to help the wristslashers who will bring the board to meltdown if we lose today I would like to remind everyone what happened the last time I went into a season is optimistic of it being a great one.
It was back in 1992 and I was expecting us to steamroller our way to the title under Lou Macari.
We went to Hull on the opening day of the season and we lost 1-0.
We still won the league at a canter!
Sit back, make some noise and enjoy the ride! :-)

If it happens it'll be interesting to see if anyone is daft enough to propose a return of the capped one

They were great days, some of my best following Stoke. I went everywhere that season, marvelous.

I remember those stood in the terrace at the side invading the pitch to celebrate the goal and Rooster went and rolled it against the post. My happiest memories as a Stoke fan (Europa League trips aside) are all from that wonderful season.

Just need to remember it is the first game of 38 and anything can happen.
I do have a sneaky feeling we will get beat 2 1 mind.

To be honest, all these fancy foreign signings and youngsters, it's not right Nige. You can't go wrong with good old proven premiership players ( Palacios). If they were in the England 2006 world cup squad (upson, Woodgate, Owen*) then even better. I've only broken this rule once, to sign Pericard , and he used to play for Juventus you know Long live Tony Pulis *I've deliberately left Crouch out as he was vaguely successful for Stoke

I suspect we will lose today and Diouf in particular will look less than impressive. I am an eternal pessimist ( smiley thingy).
However, this is a long campaign and I am perfectly content we will better last season's points, goals and league position. I'm even dreaming of Wembley and silverware. And Diouf will prove to be a cracking player.

People are only allowed to comment if we win then.

If we lose we lose (can't see it myself) plenty of time. We had a bad patch last season when a lot thought we were going down but look how it turned out. At least I'm excited about the season ahead for a change.
