The entire 60's revolution in Britain was inspired by Elvis and little Richard and others, it then swept back across the Atlantic to do the same there. I think you are spot on...

He was a quite good singer who died on the toilet. That is all.
Elvis didn't write any of his songs. There are two songs that Elvis has song writting credit to: "That's Someone You'll Never Forget" and "You'll Be Gone".
"That's Someone You Never Forget" was a title that Elvis came up with (possibly about his Mum) and asked Red West to write a song around it. Because of that, Red gave him songwriting credit.
"You'll Be Gone" was another one that Elvis has credit for writing. However, he actually liked the tune of Cole Porter's "Begin the Beguine" and wanted new lyrics for it but Cole Porter wouldn't allow that, so new music was created for him. He just provided the idea and had no hand in writting the song.
Elvis is no legend compared to John Lennon, Bob Dylan or Marley.

Died 37 years ago today. Changed the musical, social and cultural world Correct . A true legend in every sense of the word. More so than any other singer that is incorrectly given the legend tag imo

I hate this revisionist bullshit where Elvis gets slagged off; he was a great performer who could sing anything. He was special, as other greats point out on this thread.

Music isn't racial it belongs to everyone . Bob Marleys father was a WHITE man but I don't see you pointing that out. Casius Clay has WHITE irish roots but I don't see you pointing that out and I don't point it out neither but unlike you race really doesn't matter to me . You're a hypocrite of the highest order and that's why people ridicule you and you are too stupid to see how much of a hypocrite you actually are. At first I thought you were a WUM because I didn't think it was possible for such ignorance and arrogance to exist but it's plain for all to see you actually just aren't all there and hold a grudge against white British folk.

Funnily enough Dylan and Lennon thought Presley was legendary, as did many others ,including Springsteen, (see Link above ).....I think I will acquiesce to their opinion, compared to one or two on here. Of course he was influenced by Black music. He was a young lad brought up in Memphis and Mississippi in the 40s and 50s !.......He just did what he enjoyed. As far as the racism issues...I'd prefer to listen to the views of the black artists/his friends (link above), rather than those with agendas. I must admit I preferred Lennon's stuff when he left the Beatles. Dylan for me is also legendary ( there is room for a few) but the couple of times I have seen him, he was disappointing.....going through his bad phase , I think.Marley legendary too.As were the Temptations, Marvin Gate, Smokey Robinson, Dean Martin, Sinatra Michael Jackson etc etc and for me this man......(also out of the Sun studios, with Johnny Cash)
Here Springsteen, Ronnie Tutt, Elvis Costello, James Burton , Bono, KD Lang and others pay tribute to him...
and written by Bono.....

Michael Jackson , The temptations , the drifters , the shirelles , the four tops and sinatra were all legends , even Rod Stewart was to some but I personally don't class Marley as a legend , I like the odd song but don't go in for all that rasta nonsense.
