The entire 60's revolution in Britain was inspired by Elvis and little Richard and others, it then swept back across the Atlantic to do the same there.

Some expert once said that Elvis has never been out of the top twenty pop charts in one or more countries across the world at any one time.
I actually believe that...take Burslem for example...

Only one Elvis Presley though I have seen Gordon , and as you say, as close as you can get to the man. Elvis was lucky enough to come along at the right time ( his words). Changed music and culture. Born in absolute poverty in a shot gun house in Shake Rag, Tupelo, including his father imprisoned for a short time . Obsessed /fascinated by the musical cultures as a young lad , black blues/gospel/country. Catapulted to fame but never lost his roots, sense of humour and humanity. A measure of his influence is the tributes paid to him by people like BB King, Dylan , Lennon, Springsteen, etc who point to him as the moment which inspired them and changed their lives. I like this tribute by Robert Plant

I'm not a fan of Elvis impersonators as I feel no one can truly do that man justice but Gordon recently won the competition for the world's best Elvis over in Canada and I've got to admit he is the best I've seen by far. When you look at manufactured music today and bands like JLS and the wanted and one direction it's easy to see why kids are the way they are. Kids been motivated by kids basically that haven't had to work hard for anything then you have Elvis that comes from a totally different era that came from poverty and worked his way up before the advent of boring shows like Ex Factor .

I agree Harry, I absolutely hate Elvis impersonators and had not seen any, but friends told me how good Gordon was, so I went to see him. Excellent. The only one I have seen. Some of the songs which he is not known for, such as this cover, are much underated. You can actually hear the words and feel the emotion, lacking in many performances today;

Imagine if everyone played the same music wore the same colour, followed Man U etc. I think the king had alot of influence on others , their words, whether you like him or not .

Music is very individual and each to their own. Not something to be argued about really. But my brief comments on the points raised: I like many artists/genres ,as did Elvis, and I guess most on the Oatcake. Dean Martin, at one time was Elvis ' favourite singer, and he is certainly one of mine.On "popular"musical influence I would agree with Harry, it is a fact.For my evidence I would just point at the tributes paid to him by others in the industry; see link below for some. www.elvis-express.com/ology_quotes.htmlFinally, he was a fit good looking fellow for most of his life (I think that is a fact). He started to become fat around 1974 as part of the illness which led to his death at 46, (His mother, of a similar disposition/physique, died at 42) In my opinion he was depressed and did indeed take to food as a comfort, much as great artists such as Amy Winehouse took to alcohol, Phil Lynott drugs etc.Presley was virtually teetotal(his mother was an alcoholic), and did not take illegal drugs , he was passionately against them BUT ........17 prescription drugs were found in his system at his official autopsy. His fatness was part of his illness/unhappiness/depression, just like a suffer from any disease /illness can show physical signs. If people want to ridicule that, it is up to them.Freddie Mercury, whom I rate as a great performer/ showman/ singer did not look too good before he died, as many people don't.
