Shane long just moved to Southampton for 12 million! We built a whole squad over 2 transfer windows for much less than that - bojan, diouf, arnie, Muniesa, pieters, sidwell, bardsley and teixeura didn't cost half what Shane long cost Southampton !!!!!!!!

and i'm pretty sure that we haven't made a profit of about 90 million like Southampton have recently.
12 mill isn't going to bother then in the slightest is it really?

Barring Arnie and Pieters, with the jury still out on Muniesa, we also have no idea how strong the squad is that we've built. If Long bangs in 20 goals, which I don't actually think he will, and Diouf and Bojan flop, our business doesn't look so good.
Southampton's problem is that everyone knows they have so much in the bank so clubs are adding at least 33% to the asking price. I hope they do well to be honest, as long as it's not at our expense. What they've done with their academy should be applauded.

12 million may not be a massive chunk out of the 90 mick but its alot of money for a player who is 27 and scored 4 goals in 17 appearences for Hull

A whole squad, not quite, but it does seem a lot of money for him considering his form at Hull wasn't amazing.

oh yeah mate, not directing the taking the piss comment at you directly. just don't think we're really in a position to comment on others (and completely ignore the profit they've made already this summer) simply because of the last 2 transfer windows and conveniently ignore what happened in the 6 beforehand!

Cant see the point of bringing on good young players and selling them on for substantial fees if the next stage in the process is to pay massively over the odds for run of the mill players. Biggest beneficiaries out of the whole Southampton saga so far ....Hull.

£12m in itself isn't going to hurt them, but it's an indication of how quickly and on what kind of player the funds are going to be used. I can't imagine all of the £90m is going to go on new players, and you have to factor in signing on fees etc.
If I was a Southampton fan, I'd be relieved that we'd started to sign the required replacements, but overall, I'd still be mightily peed off with the overall direction we're headed, i.e down.

Is long an improvement on the players they sold? Not in a million years. Smacks of a panic but in my opinion. Spurs spent the whole 100 million they spent on bale on players which they now want to off load almost lock, stock and barrel - soldado, dembele, Capoue, chad li, chicheres. They're all for sale. And did they assemble s better team than what they had before? Not really, they had to rely on adebayor to save something out if their season

Hull paid 6.5m for him, which I thought was over the top. Looking at his scoring stats averaged 8 goals per season for the baggies and 4 in 15 for Hull, so again on course for a similar number. Done pretty much bugger all at International level and he is 27, 12.5m..bargain!

Well, having all that money isn't guaranteed to make them very wise, is it? Having money to burn isn't usually a good thing, because money does burn, very quickly.

And the money we paid for Crouch was worth it, for THAT goal, and how much his name raised the profile of the club, along with his contribution of goals!

It's a weird one but he never seems to score too many , thought Hull might keep him on , feels weird that we seem as smooth as a rolls royce compared to the rest but in a good way

The thing is, are Southampton paying the price for their success ?
Most of their better players have been "poached" by top 6 clubs.
I'd prefer our mid table achievements, some good performances in the Cups and retaining our better players.
