The Ryan broken leg joke is an absolute corker, pure slap stick at it's very best And alarm bells gently ringing Gaffer Mark Hughes. Did a splendid job in proving the sceptics wrong last season, single-handedly changing how club and manager are perceived Prospects A succession of so-so summer signings has set alarm bells ringing, albeit gently. The "what now?" question is especially pertinent Star Man Marko Arnautovic. The dynamic Austrian encapsulated the new Stoke: easy on the eye, unpredictable but not short of flair while being blessed with a sterling work ethic Weakest link Brek Shea. Since arriving for £2.5m in January 2013 the American has made 3 Premier League substitute appearances and was sent home in disgrace from a loan at Barnsley. Key arrivals Steve Sidwell, Mame Biram Diouf,Bojan Krikic, Dionatan Teixeira Key Departures Matthew Etherington Worst case scenario Hughes gets a better offer. Ryan Shawcross breaks his own leg in a late self tackle. Stokes inner-Stoke re-emerges Last season 9th Forecast 8th

"So-So Summer signings" I raise you motherfucking Bojan. I can sort of see where he is coming from. Some of the signings (Bardsley and Sidwell) bring experience and add to the squad but are not the sort to raise the stakes dramatically. Others like Diouf, Bojan and Teixera have great potential but are as yet unproven in the Prem. I think we are in for a cracking season and, to be fair, the writer of the Times preview has us down to finish 8th - so he must be pretty impressed as well.

So they say all that then predict that we will actually get 8th, an improvement on last season! That is why I don't read the Sunday Times What a load of bollocks

That is why I don't read the Sunday Times What a load of bollocks I think the comments that you see as negative are supposed to be ironic. Stokies do seem to have trouble recognising irony. I don't know whether North Staffs is different to other parts of the country in that respect but it often seems that way.

Oh and Stoke fans are starting to get way beyond precious these days. Man up and have an Oatcake.

Surely this is a PREVIEW not a review? Nah - as far as most London media are concerned, the script is already written on matters Stoke.

Hughes gets a better offer or Shawcross breaks his own leg in a late self tackle
Below is my response to the Editor of the time's feel free to join in or ignore if as many do you think we should
Today's Review of Stoke City's premiership prospects `refers to Ryan Shawcross Breaking his own leg in a late self challenge
Letters@sunday-times.co.uk
"Quality Journalism " you would see bettered every day in the Sport . If the writer is referring to a tackle four years ago he needs to watch the footage again and again and see who arrive late . Secondly if he choose's to besmirch the reputation of one of the games finest young professionals perhaps he should do so about one of the ones playing in the Sky ( Times ) 5 or will that spoil his corporate lifestyle .
The comment is despicable at every level , ill informed , without basis , blatantly ignores the views of the likes of Shearer , Hanson , Gerrard at the time , 4 years old ,any comment on Chelsea will Terry run off with a team mates wife ruining Chelsea's season of course not , , will Arsenal be upended by Wiltshire give his team mates cancer from passive smoking of course not ,, Will Rooney liase with Van G 's wife because he like's that age group and ruin Man Utd's Season of course not ,oh no presumably because the past matters not when lunch is at stake
Show some decency and standards and make the man apologise to Ryan in person face to face in the full glare of the media spotlight his position has enabled him to so abuse and thereby besmirch his employers reputation. Its at best disregard for the facts , at worst a consciousattempt to besmirch the reputation of a fine young man with no right of reply , and who for season after season has responded to the vitriol stirred up by the london media by simply getting on with his game and building a fine young family , it may escape Aizlewood's notice as he hides behind articles without an e mail address something you could learn from the red top leaders of Holt, Dunn, Cross , Even Dennis etc , that Ryan Shawcross has a family too and has a reputation which should be protected from those paid handsomely to write about the sport and who do so with no insight , knowledge or integrity.

No arguements with the transfer activity comment. I think most from the outside judge it as fairly unspectacular with a little gamble/long-shot thrown in as far as Bojan is concerned. With regards the Shawcross remark - if thats irony, irony aint what it used to be.

Lazy journalism as if he'd watched us last season then he would've known that the "so-so summer signings has set alarm bells ringing" were the positions that we actually needed.

Yes we should be sensitive to it. It's because the club has sat back and let ryan be abused every season by newspapers and radio presenters that it keeps coming up.
Stoke should contact that newspaper and take it further if necessary.

Two schools of thought and i respect both , but personally and it's probably my only disagreement with the club hierarchy but I would rather have spent the likes of Edu's wages suing a few journalist's for defamation or whatever the lawyers on here believe possible .it's cost our man a lot in terms of Reputation and we have the muscle to challenge the injustice but it's just a view and I'm sure there are good reasons for the choices made

Perhaps it's done us a favour. It's kept Ryan out of the England squad where he would have mixed with the bunch of big club who would have tried to turn his head.
It's also meant that no London club will touch him as the Cockney centric media wouldn't be able to stomach it. He would be perfect for either Arsenal or Tottenham but neither would dare bid for him
Finally Ryan saw how the club and supporters stood by him and so may have mafe him more loyal.
