Still not happy with the explanation of circumstances regarding his departure. He was easily good enough to have played in the Prem for us for longer than we did, up until Pennant in fact.

Still not happy with the explanation of circumstances regarding his departure. Have you written to your local MP to express your dissatisfaction?

Watched the recent Shrewsbury and Altrincham friendly and it was pretty obvious which player had played at the top level. Everything Shrewsbury did that was worthwhile went through him.

Here's hoping we get Shrewbury at home in the cup. Be great to give Lenny some appreciation he deserves.

He's a Stoke City legend. What is it with the word legend being thrown around so easily these days. He was good for us but far from being a legend.

He's at Shrewsbury these days?
That's a bit ruff.

"An extremely famous or notorious person, especially in a particular field" Well I think the top scorer and player of the season from one of the very few times we've been promoted to the top flight will be remembered for years to come by Stoke fans, so he probably counts. Liam is ace.

So one good season counts as a claim for legend?
I guess young uns use it much more frequently than I do as it seems everyone is a legend these days.

Liam Lawrence was a great player for this football club. Joint top scorer in the promotion season, including THAT goal at Coventry, scored our first ever premier league goal at home, and scored the goal that secured our safety in the first season against Hull.
Maybe not a legend, but certainly one of my favourite players of the last 15 years or so.

Legend is arguable but very good player who would deserve as rousing a welcome back as any Stoke player this century, Ric, Rory, anyone.

Reading Liam Lawrence and that goal in the same sentence is almost as common as Jon Parkin and that photo That said, I was there, it was a great goal

I always felt comfortable when he had the ball at his feet. He was actually a very intelligent footballer, and I think his involvement in our first premier league season is sometimes understated. Never gave possession away cheaply in a side that didn't get much of the ball in the first place. The season we came up, we had the best two players outside the top flight in Ric and Lenny. Forever welcome in this area

Surprised to see that at 32 he is a year younger than Odemwingie and a year older than Sidwell, on that basis and given his ability I would have expected him to still be plying his trade in some division above the basement. I'm guessing he has suffered with a few debilitating injuries

See, I disagree with people saying he's not a legend. We were out of the top flight for almost 30 years and, in that time, had no small amount of shite footballers and carthorses. For a player to then (along with Delap, Whelan, Fuller, Shawcross and Sidibe et al) propel us to the top division scoring and assisting as many goals as he did IS the stuff of legend when you're a club like we were/are.
If we'd been blessed with top quality footballers throughout our history then he probably wouldn't be such a 'legend'. Fair enough, he might not have played anywhere near as much as Smith or Pejic or had such an influence in the top flight but the fact remains that, without Liam Lawrence, we wouldn't have got promoted in 2008.
