My wife's a Dr & has just come home for lunch. I put your Q to her & she said, definitely do not stop taking them as you could have a massive stroke. Go back to your GP & ask what they can do for you... cheers. I am going to ask my doc if I can have a "holiday" from taking them then see what my blood test results are like.i still think its a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to having a [mini] stroke which I think was a wake up call? I also know that there are other cholesterol reducing medicines so may have to try one of them. thank you for taking the time to reply. Just echoing what's been said, don't stop or change without checking with the doc but DO report any side effects, better to be a pain in the Dr's arse than not mention something that could prove important. Also with Simvastatin, daft question but you're not eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice are you?

Is there any alternatives besides statin tablets ? Red wine, tomatoes, olive oil, garlic and a Mediterranean diet in general but not sure what the latest wisdom is about that as a full alternative to statins, if you've had some kind of event I guess you've be pretty brave to risk going off meds unless really well monitored.
