does anybody on here take simvastatin? I would be interested to know if anyone else has had probs with them? I have been on them now for two years along with clopidogrel due to a tst in 2012. just lately I have been having a "muzzy head" not quite a headache but annoying anyway. docs said I would be on these for the rest of my life but I am sorely tempted to stop taking them, esp as I have changed my lifestyle since the stroke more exercise more fruit&veg drinking more water.

My wife's a Dr & has just come home for lunch. I put your Q to her & she said, definitely do not stop taking them as you could have a massive stroke. Go back to your GP & ask what they can do for you...

I am going to ask my doc if I can have a "holiday" from taking them then see what my blood test results are like.i still think its a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to having a [mini] stroke which I think was a wake up call? I also know that there are other cholesterol reducing medicines so may have to try one of them. thank you for taking the time to reply.

Whatever you don't just stop taking then. How much are you on? 40 mg? You may just need to reduce the dose, or there are other similar medications ask your GP

Ive been on them for 2 years too, with no side effects (that I'm aware of!). I'd echo the other (sensible) replies and advise visiting the doctor before you stop taking them.

I've been on them for about 18 months. No side effects but I really miss grapefruit.

Been on them for 8 years now, there can be some side effects I advise you to take them before bed and at a regular time , give your body time to adjust to them.
A mini stroke is not a wake up call, it's a SORT IT NOW thing, Let your doctor sort your pills you do the exercise routine and the dietary changes.

I have been taking the 40mg tablet for nearly 4 years following a bypass op, always take it just before bedtime, can't say I have any side effects at all, I do forget every now and then but don't notice any wobble or owt, as someone posted there are alternatives.

Been taking statins for more than 15 years, latest ones are simvastatin 40mg, taken last thing at night; never had any problems but check with your doctor there are lots of alternatives. I take blood pressure tablets as well (been a Stoke supporter since the 1960's) and the first lot upset so I changed them but my mother-in-law who is 100 takes them quite happily. Some suit some don't but see your doctor.
