Don't worry I don't think it'll be long before we are singing God save the King instead.

It floats my boat. Not sure if this is a bit too sober for the National anthem - but it's awesome; Largo from Dvo?ák's 9th symphony. Which, IMO, sounds best when played by a brass band (don't know why - seems more atmospheric) Also, I guess we'd prefer something written by a Brit so Holst wins. Maybe Mars is worth considering, although Jupiter would get my vote. Not Jerusalem though - as we discussed separately on a cricket thread that ain't at all appropriate. It is hardly, nor intended to be, a paean; which us what a National Anthem should be. Same reason I can't abide Flower of Scotland - a right dirge. Give me Scotland the Brave or Caledonia or even Shang A Lang for up here. That last one always gets a karaoke bouncing!

I like Holst, but ' Mars the bringer of war' may not be quite the right anthem. :-)

I'm hoping all we are waiting on before switching to I vow to thee is the passing of the throne.
I don't know of a single person who doesn't want it changed. But respect for the queen prevents a lot of people from speaking up.

When your usual station is a bit $#!t switch to R3 & that will give you a broader range of classical music & your more likely to find the stuff that appeals to you...

Sort of related question,
Why as a football team do England have god save the Queen, but as England in the commonwealth games to we have Jerusalem?

Sort of related question, Why as a football team do England have god save the Queen, but as England in the commonwealth games to we have Jerusalem? Commonwealth Games England changed their official anthem to Jerusalem in 2010 [or maybe 2009]. Not sure of the exact rules for football, but if the England wanted to change their anthem I'm fairly sure it would be down to the FA. I'm pretty sure they could do that without the official anthem of the country being changed.
