At some point we may need to venture out?

Just said this to the Bride. While we are buzzing at the prospect of this season ahead and with the caveat that spending big money on one player can go tits up it does show we are by no means in the big league. Slowly slowly catchy Monkey..

In 100 years time I reckon we would have spent 20M on a player at some point...
So yes.

Well, we probably will eventually if we maintain our current position because of the inflation of transfer fees. But I don't imagine we will do so out of proportion to our rivals in the league. After all, considering we've purchased players like Muniesa, Pieters, Arnautovic, Odemwingie and Bojan from the same money we spent on Kenwyne Jones or Wilson Palacios, do we really need to make extravagant purchases?

Maybe, I remember when this transfer team were announced as operative they said that with this new team & contacts Stoke will be quickly alerted to the best young players to become or to be becoming available around Europe, since then we have signed Diouf, Muniesa, Arnautovic & Bojan all from overseas, Texiera looks like a player as well. All this for a total of less than £5 million. It seems to me that the club were spot on with their claims. After seeing these arrivals I've got complete faith in this set-up that they can keep on delivering players whoose contracts are coming up for renewal for a tiny sum in footballing terms.

Yes but by then the going rate for an established striker will be well over £50m

Yes we will, inflation will see to that. My dad reckoned we had overpaid for Greenhoff. I think it was £100k or something like that - that's a sixtieth of what Palacios cost!

Yes we could do that now ....but no we won't because we have a proper manager at the helm.
In 12 months time we could be selling anyone of three players for that amount...

Not a chance. Stoke will only ever spend £20mill on one player when the club is making £20 million profit a year, we are currently losing £5 million a year so some way to go yet

Within ten years, I would guess. Similar. I reckon in the next five years or so, dependant on us staying in the Prem and the game's finances not imploding in the meantime.

By the looks of things, we're more likely to become a club that signs a player for £2 million and sells them for £20 million, I doubt we'll fork out that amount unless we somehow miraculously break into the top 4 in the next decade, which is about as plausible as finding a decent Arsenal fan.

At where we are now, probably not and I do hope that we find better bargains than spending lots of money on bigger players. If we ever pay over £20m for a player, we'll be a bigger club than we are now for certain.

Depends on who owns the club, the ambition and the manager.
Pulis would pay 20 million for Kevin Francis if he was plying his trade now.

The more successful we are at this the more difficult it will become. IF we start selling some of these starlets for big money the clubs we poach them from may be more wary? We seem to be operating in a parallel universe where other clubs are spending silly money and us nothing. Let's hope we are always seen as 'Poor little Stoke'.

At some point we may need to venture out? (Lukaku to Everton 23 mill) I remember us discussing (Stoke supporters) if we ever were going to experience Stoke having a player worth £1M in every position! It doesn't seem so long ago, but times have changed rapidly the last 7-8 years! Luckily in the right direction for our beloved club!
