As said, with inflation, the money in the game growing along with the avarage price of player, most defiantly yes.
There was a time (well before my own) where i imagine most people laughing at the idea of any club let along stoke spending a million on a player.

Within 50 years I predict a sausage sandwich from a motorway service station will set you back £20 million.
Those bastards, they've got you, haven't they: tired, starvin marvin and hundreds of miles from home at close to midnight so you feel compelled to pay over the odds for a useless lump of lard (like TP on August 31 come to think of it).

What a stupid question and what a stupid bunch of bastards who are saying no.
Clearly no concept of economics, because the answer is undoubtedly yes unless we get relegated.
IE the longer we stay up, the less value 20m has, and the more likely we are to spend it.

I'm undoubtedly an utter cunt on a personal level, but not for my argument. On a long enough timeline, 20m will be the new 250k, unless we collapse before then.
So if we will "ever" pay that, then yes of course we will.

I hope not. Lukaku at 28 million pounds is massively overpriced. For a 21 year old who only Suarez and Van Persie have scored more goals than in the last 2 seasons? If it was someone like Bony I agree as many players can turn out to be 1 season wonders (michu anybody?) but Lukaku has shown he is guaranteed to hit you 15-20 per season. Im just delighted we have 2 of the best young players in europe up top absolutely love these two!

Pint of beer was one and sixpence when I was young! That's seven and a half pence! It is quite inevitable that football transfer fees will inevitably rise. Just think that £100k bought a talent such as Greenhoff.

Yes but by then the going rate for an established striker will be well over £50m You may not be aware that Real Madrid spent £80 million for an established striker five years ago!! I am aware but I was inferring the premier league rule and not the la liga exception.

and with Coleman, Stones, Besic and McCarthy you're building a hell of a squad that could be there for some years to come! must have been nice to hear Barkley's comments after signing his extension as well...went above and beyond the usual PR by numbers shit that players usually come out with. properly committed to the club, fair play to him!

Eventually yes, but I think it might be some time away. We broke 1m with Carl Cort in January 2008 and 3 1/2 years later we'd gone to £10m for Crouch

One of the potential problems Stoke (and possibly Everton) face is the Southampton scenario. The big spenders come and take away "the silver". That would leave Stoke with a lot of cash so could have to spend big to rebuild.

Absolutely mate on Barkley I was made up with the lad he speaks like a true supporter he's everything sadly wayne could of been:
"This contract means everything for me. It is my dream to play for Everton. I didn't think about other clubs, this is the club I love and I see it as home. We’ve got to push on now and one of the objectives is the Champions League."
“I realise the importance of signing because I remember how I felt when Wayne left. He was one of the best players in the team and we thought we could push on with him at Everton. When he left we were all down as Evertonians. I just wanted to sign and hopefully we can push Everton on together."
"I've a long way to go to be an Everton legend. Hopefully one day I will be."
I said it on here a while ago I wouldn't be surprised if he did a gerrard and stayed his career the "I've a long way to go to be an Everton legend" Is a massive thing to say, although im not naïve to believe in 4-5 years he might want a new challenge but providing he gives us his all for a few years I wouldn't begrudge the lad a move to a Madrid/Bayern like Bale did if he develops into the quality of player he could be.

On the way back from London. I was actually told this morning by an Everton fan that part of the Lukaku deal was an agreement for Chelsea to buy Barkeley next season for £50-55 million. His source works within the club. Also, young Chelsea winger (he couldn't remember name) who is on loan at Arnhem is joining Everton on loan. Sure someone will google that. Thought I would reply given my chat this morning. Your views?

Your views? personally I cant see it mate tbh we've been in talks apparently with atsu for a while now but as the rule is you cant loan 2 players from the same club we had to wait to sign lukaku permantly before resuming talks as we had a back up plan to loan lukaku instead in the event of Chelsea pricing us out of a permanent deal. imho and im one of the most pessimistic evertonians around haha I just cant see him leaving atleast not until he's in his mid 20's and maybe he want a new challenge, but I think as a blue himself he knows theirs something special going on at the moment, Martinez signing a new deal, Coleman, Barkley and Baines signing up with stones in talks to renew, lukaku signing alongside besic and possibly atsu I think he would be daft to leave right now.
also interesting the mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson (an evertonian) tweeted that lukaku wasn't the only big news that will come out of everton before the start of the new season, and when some everton fan asked him was it a new stadium he replied "shusssh" so maybe a hint we have a new stadium plan finally in the pipeline, if so as gutting as it would be to leave goodison the clubs really moving forward Martinez has brought such a buzz to the place!

Coates wants the club to be self sufficient which for a club our size means low transfer fees unless income rises. The only way to raise more income is to sell your valuable players and this is likely to be the strategy moving forward
