It was the first time in a while that I have seen our U21s in action and the chance came co-incidentally in the same week that I got the chance to see the Man United equivalent in action.
I don't want to start the game of picking out individual young lads for any criticism but it underlined for me generally what a massive catch up programme we are engaged in.
On the plus side I thought that the number 19 (Nardiello?)along with the lad who scored the last goal were technically up to standard and the big centre back had something about him.
Our boys played against a semi-pro team that were the same age as themselves and the only difference of note for many was a full time fitness level that allowed us to close and pressurise quicker. Technically you could have thrown a blanket over many.
The Man United group passed the legs off a Conference Premier side. We are still light years behind thanks to a decade of neglect and abuse of the process.
We have the facilities to match anyone these days. I hope we have the staff to match and patience will be rewarded in an area of the club that is vital to our long term health.
