It wasn't 442 though was it? Straight from the kick off Bojan ran alongside Diouf for 30 seconds then dropped back in the hole. It's the same system Hughes has used for years...4231.
Yeah think it was meant to be 4-2-3-1 but I can see why Jamo thought it was 4-4-2 because Bojan was drifting further and further forward as the half went on, just before the stream went down, he was virtually playing alongside Diouf.
Whether by accident or design it appeared to be 442 to me. That may have more to do with the players to be fair. I also think the lack of proper "wide forwards" was dictating how we set up as well.

I don't think it will be a tragedy if we lose this one. It will no doubt puncture the balloon of optimism on here which has been expanding for weeks and weeks on here now and it will trigger a new round of soul-searching, the first for a while, but if it serves as a wake-up call and a reminder that in the end this stuff is bloody hard work and heavy lifting whoever plays it will be no bad thing.

I just hope Hughes knows how to use Bojan correctly otherwise we'll have another Tuncay situation. The difference is we actually have coaches now at the football club not dinosaurs wanting play anti football.

Folk do know this is primarily a fitness and team bonding exercise don't they? I think if we're tinkering with the system and playing Shotton wide against Freiburg an Betis then we should be worried but this is just an elevated training game on (an admittedly very nice looking) park pitch.

Nah, only a friendly, all about fitness, which is why Shotton's getting game time on the wing.

Spot on though I am a bit confused as to why were playing with a bit of a mish mash rather than our best 11 first half and squad players 2nd half. One thing that's obvious though is that Wilko and Shotton shouldn't be near the first 11 or bench.

I agree but if Bojan starts ahead of Ireland or Adam in the hole then we might as well play with 10 men. He's also shite out wide according to every report I've read. Up top or not at all.

I'm not worried about the result but hopefully seeing some of the options we still may have to rely on dispels the myth that we don't need anymore new signings.
In key areas we still have little strength in depth.

The 30 mins I saw showed a few things:
1. Wilko and Shots are Championship players at best. 2. Playing both Ireland and Bojan centrally exposes Whelan and gives control of the middle of the park to the opposition. 3. We are very much treating this as a glorified training session so us fans should not get too worked up about the result.
