I remember quite a few folks questioning Pulis's wisdom in spending that amount of money on him at the time - me included!

Bargain of the decade... I'm not going to say step forward all those who thought we'd blown too much on a journeyman, but Liam is a great instance of the TP philosophy - track your player, wait and get him at the right money, believe in him and keep on believing and then (unless his name's Parkin) watch him come on song over time and be right there when you need him. Which is how you build a real cohesive football team.

I don't recall anybodty ever calling Super Liam a waste of money? ??? Smudge, I expected you to remember the old board being swamped with people saying it. However, we football fans are very fickle.

Yup, surely the best half a million in our history. Did have his detractors who said he was lazy, a primadonna and was a useless winger as he couldnt beat a man. He still isnt the paciest, but by God he's strong, clever and gives 100% every time for us- so he answered his critics. Like's a pint too, can't fault the lad! How the fuck did we manage to pay the same for Kyle Lightbourne?

"I don't recall anybodty ever calling Super Liam a waste of money? ???" Loads of people did last season Smudge. I think even someone who sits next to you at games may have done. And one certain Stoke fan told me Bjarni was a far better player, earlier THIS season. I won't let him forget that. Liam is ace.

For a little while early on he looked a bit of a plodder and the jury was out, but this season, particularly the second half of the season he has been immense and money well spent.

The Lawrence fee was certainly questioned, consistently lumped in with Sweeney as an example of how Pulis could only spot a decent defender.
It's fair to say he's surprised even his most staunch defenders with his quality this season though!

A criminal waste of the club's precious resources !
We could have loaned a goal getting PL striker for that during the last half a dozen games.
Shocking incompetence!
Scholes / Pulis / Coates - all out !

Para, I think the person who sits next to me said he was a good player who was over-priced. Hardly the same as calling someone a waste of money. I genuinely can't recall anyone calling him a "waste of money"???

Not sure if he's premiership class,(only Shawcross is a cert) but he's a bloody good player at this level.

Smudge, there isn't a great deal of difference between saying someone is over priced and that they are a waste of money. They are not quite the same thing but they are close.
I do recall a few posters (not the one who sits near you) saying that it was bad business to sell Chadwick and lash out nearly £300k more for Lawrence as a replacement! I still can't get my head round the fact that Liam hasn't been capped - one of modern football's great mysteries.
I'd say that the money spent on Lawrence and Fuller represents the best value for money since we moved to the Brit. Of course TP has wasted a few bob as well but that seems to be the way of things in football.......

I also remember Mark Wolstanton (sorry the one that sits next to you who likes deleting stuff) saying that Lawrence only bothers playing for about 10 minutes in each match. Seems he's got Smudge telling lies for him now, pathetic.
I also don't get this over-priced thing not meaning a waste of money? If you bought a car for £5000 and you could have bought the same car for £4000 have you wasted your money or not? This seems to be based on Mark Wolstanton thinking, perhaps he is using Smudge's log-in now?

Just expressing an opinion here, not doing anybody else's bidding. Mark can speak for himself, but I don't personally ever recall him saying Lawrence was a waste of money. It was always that he was over-priced. But you argue with him the most so I don't know what he may have said to you?

Oh ho ho, you've got Le Saux syndrome as well have you? And avatars are a bit gay anyway aren't they? FFS 'over-priced' is a waste of money, you could have got a better price, jesus it can't be that difficult to work out?

FFS 'over-priced' is a waste of money, you could have got a better price, jesus it can't be that difficult to work out? At the risk of wasting valuable minutes of my life trying to reason with someone who doesn't have the ability to reason, "over-priced" is NOT the same as a "waste of money". I might have to pay a little more for something I want off E-Bay and if I get it I'll be glad I got it but will admit it's a little over-priced. A waste of money, on the other hand, is a waste of money - something not worth having at all. Please to god tell me that you can see that????????

15 goals this season,in the championship team of the season voted player of the season by stokies and hopefully helped us to promotion means he has been a bargain. Now £4 million for Ameobi would be a waste of money.

Sorry Smudge, it seems I've caused you problems saying he was a waste of money!! Perhaps I should have said over priced Either way, there were a lot of people saying that £500,000 was too much to pay for him, myself included, but i don't mind admitting that he has probably been Pulis's best buy - closely followed by Fuller. He wasn't a waste of money or overpriced!! ;D
