Or it shows how behind we are with what we do with the potential partnership? It has a lot to do with the majority owner of Orlando, like all rich brazilians he does not live in Brazil. Think he lives in Portugal, what are the odds it's benfica Is that Flavio Augusto da Silva? Just reading up on him. Seems like he has a lot in common with Phil in the sense that they both made their money by building up training companies and then flogging them to the highest bidder. ok Flavio's company was teaching English as a foreign language and Phil's was teaching IT sales skills but definite parallels. I suppose when push come to shove they are both in the money making game and no reason to think sentiment would play any part in their decision making. Mr. Coates would be exactly the same. My conclusion from this thread is that there is no relationship between Orlando City and Stoke City beyond the fact that one of the Orlando co-owners was in an earlier life a small investor and board member at Stoke City and the fact that the Orlando boss played 95 games for Stoke City back in the mid 80's so long ago you could still get a mullet at Mayfair in the Market Arcade in NUL. Nothing else at all.

I went to the friendly versus FC Dallas last year. Heck, start a partnership with them.

Think he lives in Portugal, what are the odds it's benfica I have heard he has a house in Portugal. Not sure where he considers his permanent residence, but I would not doubt that he has some sort of tie to Benfica for them to be interested in a partnership with an MLS side. Hopefully something with Stoke will follow suit, as both an Orlando and Stoke supporter myself.

And there you go I read above they have gone off and done business with Benfica anyway I'm not sure that their tie up with Benfica alters things much. There are clubs with formal links to more than one foreign club. You'd have to ask the club what, if any, formal links it has with Orlando and how those links are structured. I'm saying that links with foreign clubs is (in my opinion) a good thing. For example, I'd much prefer that our young players were given game time at a foreign club where we have built strong links, than Greg Dyke's "B" team in a mythical extra division concept - or in a hap-hazard fashion at Rochdale, Barnsley, Millwall or Little Dribble in the Marsh. It just seems to me to be a better way of doing things. And the Owners of Orlando and Benfica seem to agree with me - which just goes to show what sensible chaps they are! >>>>And right after I posted this, I read a quote from the Brazilian owner saying Orlando will have 4 Benfica players on loan next season. There you have it Forny and anyone else. Flavio and Phil are in bed with another man. I'm fine with it but we really should disabuse ourselves of the idea that Orlando City and their owners give so much as a flying fuck about Stoke City.

Well I'm not being funny but this agreement Orlando City have signed with Benfica tells you all you need to know about how much they cherish any relationship with Stoke City. Or it shows how behind we are with what we do with the potential partnership? Well as Flavio is the majority owner...... go figure!

The street goes both ways. Who's to say Stoke was interested? No one, quite possibly Stoke were not interested, but the inference on this and several other threads is that because Phil Rawlins is now in charge at Orlando City they are gagging to be best mates with us because Phil cares more about Stoke City than anything else. All the evidence I have seen says that he doesn't.

When Rawlins and Heath sat down to discuss how to develop the Orlando City Soccer Club they both said Stoke City is their primary inspiration both in development of players and play style.
I am unaware of any current relationship but Orlando City is the product of Stoke City ownership having relations with a Brazilian....and boom a new club was born!

We still haven't used it to our advantage when Rawlins was the main man. And he's still a big influence there, President an' all. It just seems like a simple thing to do that we miss out on.
