I don't know about you but I've been unimpressed by this 2014 team, technically they're good but Brazil seem to have lost the Free Spirit that was once Brazilian team, what do you think?
Here's a question for debate
How many of this team would get in the teams of years gone by, I'm thinking of at least 30 years ago perhaps 1982 would be the last really brilliant team.

always hard to compare modern football is a lot different, speed pace tactics etc
intodays football maybe some of the 70 team wouldnt get in the 14 team, too attacking
but this brazil team is nothing special

Tbh I'm amazed they've made it to the semis. Only due to some very questionable decisions that they have cos they've been very average for a brazil side

even harder to compare nowadays as Brazil quite simply just don't play like Brazil anymore, they play far more like a Champions league outfit because the vast majority of their players all play in europe nowadays. the old Brazilian flair and samba football seems to have disappeared completely now. before the tournament even Pele said it's the first time in his lifetime that he's looked at a Brazil squad and realised they are far stronger at the back than they are going forward at the moment.

Brasil is nothing special indeed but made it to top 4 now and is looking to get to the final. They got some skills and good team spirit. They are not going to play like 58 or 70 versions because it was nice football and everybody enjoyed to watch it. This is history. They want to win WC on home soil and I think style is last thing that matters to them at this stage of competition. Gold medals on the chests matter ;-)

The only Brazil team I've seen which was sheer beauty was the 1982 side. If they had won the trophy they would be as revered as the 1970 side. The 90 team tried European strategy. The 94 side, despite winning it was hard to warm to. Brilliant player as Romario was he was also a charmless shortarse.

I think Brazil are poor and have got to where they are with some luck and dodgy refereeing. But I would say nobody cares in Brazil as long as they win, and they will go to any lengths to do just that. I can see the Germany game being a real battle, the Refs are not giving out yellow cards until the last 15 minutes of games, so anyone who wants to play football will not get protection. The group stages and the last 16 matches were great to watch with the odd exception, apart from extra time in the Costa Rica game, the qtr finals are showing results are being ground out, it will be the same for semi final games, only the result matters.

I think Thiago Silva would be the only one to get into the older Brazil sides.
Neymar probably a squad player - no way he would displace the Ronaldos/Romarios or the greats from further generations gone by.

Tim vickery was saying the same on Talksport yesterday morning.results are all and the method is irrelevant! apparently he interviewed Scolari back in the 90s when he was still a club coach and Scolari freely admitted that fouling is part and parcel of the game over there in order to break up games and stop any flow from the opposition. they see it as "Tactical fouling" and rather than being seen as poor sportsmanship as it is over here, it's very much encouraged in South America as a way of grinding out victories.rather than being a last resort it's a part of their tactics all the time in one way or the other. over 30 fouls committed by Brazil in their last game tells it all really! can't win by playing football so win by ensuring the opposition doesn't get chance to play and winding them up so they lose composure. sad to see what was once such a delightful national team to watch resorting to what we (when we were growing up) simply saw as a dirty, uruguayan way of playing. i expect Germany to be stronger than that though mentally and see through what they're doing. i really can't see anything other than a Germany win.

Germany are 2.1 on betfair in the draw no bet market. This looks like the bet of the century to me.
My only worry is that brazil have been favoured by referees, and are likely to be so again.
Still, I am lumping on this.

Neymar probably a squad player - no way he would displace the Ronaldos/Romarios or the greats from further generations gone by. Neymar is still young so he may improve & end up being a 'top top player' (a phrase I heard somewhere, can't remember who...) but yes I agree. Silva is quality. The others (by Brazil standards) would not be featuring in any all time lists

the main problem with Neymar is his own image and ego.....
he is a cracking cracking player and there's absolutely no denying that but he's soooooo desperate to be mentioned up there with Ronaldo and Messi and soooo intent on being the new Pele and star man of this Brazil generation that we'll remember for decades to come, that he seems insistent of doing EVERYTHING himself and too often misses easy balls to his colleagues in far better positions.
another player who's forgotten about football being a team game and has got too wrapped up in his own name for me.if he got that sorted he'd be a far better player for it (and he's not too shabby as it is)

Only due to some very questionable decisions that they have cos they've been very average for a brazil side This Brazil side has much in common with the South Korea team in 2002; on that occasion a poor home nation reached the semi final on the back of some helpful refereeing decisions.

It will be better for football and sport in general if Brazil don't win.
Everyone has always loved Brazil because historically they have played the best football and had the best players yet were always vulnerable. They were the Alex Higgins of football.
That air of vulnerability has chipped away with their substance-over-style wins overseas; if they grind out a victory at home with this comparitively charmless outfit, they will become just another Stephen Hendry.

Ronaldo was doing this at 19:

The fantastic Brazil team 1982 almost came about from the negative reaction to their 74 & to some extent 78 side, they went back to their roots and the beautiful game, of cause they just happened to have the players that fitted it with Zico, Socrates, Eder, Junior, Falcao, I don't see these kind of players now.

Not anywhere near as good others they have had though
