Interesting development, England have included Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes in a 13-man squad for the first Test against India at Trent Bridge.

If Stokes is not picked to play, the selectors want beating around the head with a ragmans trumpet.

It would be hard on Jordan - and possibly a return to the bad old days (of selecting players for the odd game). Stokes does return a quick return to the side though after his performances in Australia.

English mother that's good enough for me! It's good enough for me as well . We also have Jason Roy Bish who was schooled here from the age of ten and has grown up here who is South African (there's a fucking surprise) so just like any other country he does qualify for us. Looks a player as well.

You are going to tell me next, We have had South Africans playing for us. Don't forget the Australian who is opening the batting for us Or the Zimbabwean Gary Ballance at #3. Or the Barbadian Chris Jordan. We are truly an accommodating team. The problem is we've been too accommodating to the opposition in recent times!

The England 11 for Wednesday is yours to call. So who do you leave out to accommodate Jordan and Stokes?

I don't think you can fit them both in Partick at the moment , long term I want to see them both in the team ....I I was forced to leave some one out to accommodate them both ,it would be Plunkett, who although he got nine wickets I don't see as being a long term part of the side .....I could of course be totally wrong and he performs well and is in the side for the next three years or so !

Moeen Ali also played marvellously for his hundred ....is he going to be a regular front line batsman in the side ? I'm not sure , but he has to score runs as his bowling alone can't keep him in the side ....we definately need to find a good spinner

Agree, Plunkett is the guy most at risk. He is a stop gap. Only worth picking if god can consistently bowl at 90+mph. But I was having a wee think about this and I'd do something radical. Drop Cook, have Ali open and put Stokes in at 6. Some tough love for Cook, but he needs some time away from the limelight to sort out his batting. I'd be a brutal selector!

But does Ali have the quality to open at this level ....possibly , I'm not sure , I'm very loathe to leave Cook out , but if he doesn't score some runs in the next two tests his place must be in question ....drop him and then the question of who to make Captain rears it's head again , Robson and Ali opening for me isn't quite what is required with only two tests each under their belt , although they have both scored a hundred in them

With a wierd winter - no tests from the end of the upcoming series with India until a trip yo the Windies in April - this summer is vital.

Didn't realise that this series is the last test cricket we'll play until we meet the Kiwis in May in England.
We don't appear to have a winter test tour - just the World Cup (including 22+ ODIs). Shocking. When was the last time England didn't have a winter test tour?
