Just thought I'd post a little RIP to Soul Legend Bobby Womack who has just passed away in the last hour or so. My Father is a massive fan, as am I. Chester passed down two great things to me he is insanely passionate about, his vinyls and his football club and he lost one of those today. It's hard to hear your Father cry fellas. Not sure if this an appropriate place to talk about music, but Soul and Stoke go hand in hand for my father and I try to carry the torch forward with both as best I can. RIP Bobby, true Soul Hero xo.

Great post. For many people music is a passion, as is the love of your football club. Both become part of your DNA that you carry with you on this great journey. When a legend dies, musician or footballer it has an effect sometimes greater than you can imagine. Heard on the radio the other day that Otis Reading was only 26 when he died, I actually felt guilty that I didn't know that. RIP Bobby Womack one of the great Soul artists of the past 40 years.

I had all of Bobby's albums on vinyl at one time. Still love his music after all these years. I'm through (trying to prove my love to you) is probably my all time soul ballad. I'm sure St.Peter will not stand in his way when he tells that woman he's through. Thanks Bobby, it's been a pleasure.

Very touching original post, you are spot on, to those of us of a certain age a love of SCFC and (Northern) Soul is inter twined, Torch, Mecca, Casino an amazing era to grow up in! Bobby Womack's music was inspirational. The scene lives on and we will be in Whitby for the annual weekender next w/e. i'm sure that Mr Womack will be remembered in the best possible way. KTF

I still remember hearing 110th Street for the 1st time... I do to! Hair standing up on back of neck and all! Oh dear, the eyes are watering again as I type this post. Great thread and nice little story. Bobby Womack RIP; the legend will live on for many many years. A left-handed guitarist who learned to play by sneaking a play on his father's right-handed guitar. Consequently, he played a right-hander upside down for his entire career, and made unique sounding music to go with such a uniquely soulful voice. Look out for the replay of a documentary about him I saw last year. (I can't remember the title for sure but it may well have 'Across a 110th Street'in it). If Bobby Womack liked football, I'm absolutely certain he would be a Stokie!

KTF Spot on I am just a little too young for the Northern Soul scene in the 70's but I remember my older sisters being being mad in to it and both having boyfriends at the time who were also in to the whole scene and were mad keen Stokies...... Crikey I'm 50 now where has all the time gone Anyway RIP Bobby !
