For the next few weeks, England! Once the season starts, then Stoke are my main passion - and of course I want them to win the league - is there any Stokie in his right mind who doesn't?
Be nice to see both happen though.

I've always said that when England lose the disappointment lasts until the next day, they're my country and I want them to win. But when Stoke lose the hurt lasts until the next time we win and even then the previous loss bothers me. Stoke matter everyday of the year.

Stoke all day long. Makes me laugh how all the plastics come out when England play. As much as I would enjoy seeing them win the World Cup I can't help but smirk when the inevitable happens we crash out in the 2nd round and the local boozer is awash with tears ... Totally agree. There again in evidence on Friday night at the FA 'palace of dreams' with their iccle plastic (or is it paper?) fan things making a bit of noise for their team. Plus the inevitable 'we want to be like Brazil really' brass band thing going on in the back ground too. If it wasn't so bloody comical I would cry. As for our team of overpaid girls, passing the ball around our inadequate back 4 before giving it to Gerrard or Henderson (what a joke) to badly lump forward. Wellbeck and Rooney unable to even control the ball, terrible first touch. Dire in the extreme. I saw England win in 66 (in black and white ) at the old Wembley, not a plastic or paper fan in sight. Unfortunately since then to a man they have failed, failed, failed. Lampard, Gerrard, Shearer, Lineker, Brooking, Hoddle, Keegan, the list goe on and to a man they have all failed to deliver on the international stage. Well fished OP, I would take a 3 pointer with Stoke EVERY time over our shower winning the World Cup and as for SCFC winning the FA Cup or League, no contest whatsoever. Thinking of supporting either Nigeria or Bosnia this time round, makes sense.

I haven't read the whole thread so merely in response to the opening post, I would rather Stoke win 3 points in any fixture of the season than England win the world cup.
If you offered me 3 points on the opening day of the season or England winning the world cup, I'd take the 3 points on the opening day of the season.
Stoke/England - There is simply no contest in any way shape or form for me. Stoke every time all of the time.

I was asked this in 2002 - which would you prefer England win WC, or Stoke win play-off final? I got my wish

I think the attitude towards England by the majority on this board is pathetic. I have supported both Stoke and England for over 50 years. In that time Stoke have let me down far more often than England. At least England have won a major honour. Stoke have had 5 or 6 decent seasons but I have never turned against even in the dark days of division 3. To answer the original question I want both Stoke and England to be successful

As with the majority of the thread its a Stoke win all the time for me.Far more important to me than England even though I will be backing the national team during the World Cup. Even though a fair few of the England squad seem out of touch with the common bloke and as a team are not very good I don't get this 'hope they get hammered' attitude.
No expectation this time around and if we get through the group then it will have been a decent showing.

Point 1 - Stoke are the team of my birthplace and will always figure ahead of England and any other team for that matter, no debate for me. Point 2 - You cannot deny that England since winning in 66 have consistently failed at this the biggest of tournaments. We have failed time and time again and are a total let down and borderline joke, this is fact I am afraid, the record books don't lie. Now if we were two Germans debating the National side's consistently solid and impressive performance over the last 50 plus years then you might have an argument.

I might add that a side with the likes of Johnson, Smalling and Henderson in it....not to mention Jagielka....is this really the best we can do? Couple that with moneybags Rooney and Joe 'mind my hair' Hart and you really have a bunch of overpaid circus clowns flying our National flag on our behalf. I despair. Roll on the start of the new Prem season.

England winning the world cup or us winning the premiership? Think about it and don't let the fact that you're on stoke's message board sway your opinion! I think i'd prefer the world cup (tin hat on) No stoke involvement in world cup, us for the league!!

Stoke, but I'm from US so that's easy. I would still say stoke over a US world cup, easily.
