Despite what he says, I think it would reduce the quality of the Premier League over time. Most Championship promoted sides do struggle in the first season or two - increasing their number will produce more struggling sides - especially if the bar is raised to 38 points.
It seems to be a recipe for more yo-yo teams - which is a bad thing in my book.

Why are they letting the work experience kid write articles for a national newspaper?
What a pile of shit that idea is....

The reason the Prem is considered the best league is because it is the most contested. In other top leagues, you have 2 top teams and the rest of the league are completely out of site by Christmas. For once this year, La Liga was a better contest with Atletico Madrid adding to the usual battle between Barcelona and Real Madrid. Where as Bayern won the league title over a month before it had finished. This 'journalist' is obviously a top four supporter, who has no idea what its like to just achieve survival in such a strong league against the much bigger and richer clubs. Yes, we would all love to be competing higher up the league. But ultimately, staying in such a great league is the initial goal. At least if you stay in the league, you still have the chance to try and build on it for next season and aim higher.

Miller is a Forest fan. He's capable of writing some good stuff. He's also capable of writing some Adrian Durham-level provocative tosh, such as this.

If I was a Forest fan I would be glad to get in the Prem and stay there. As a Stoke supporter before our promotion, I could only dream of such a status. Infact, I sometimes still can't believe it, as I never thought we would be able to get promotion and stay at this level, after all the years enduring lower level football.

Of course he wants more teams relegated, so more teams from the Championship can get promotion. Giving his side (Forest) a better chance of promotion.

why 1 point per game? why not 0.95 or 1.05 points? Its an arbitrary figure he's just plucked out of the air, indicative of nothing in particular. Just because it happens to be a whole number doesn't mean anything per se.

So 38pts would be considered a good achievement? Hit 38pts and relax.... Hardly competitive. It would still mean the aim of 3/5 of the league would simply be to survive. It doesn't solve anything.

I wonder if he has really thought this through? If it had been in operation this season then, in addition to the 3 teams who did get relegated, another four teams would also have got relegated: Sunderland, Villa, Hull and West Brom. Now much as we from our lofty position of 9th would have a chuckle at the idea of those teams getting relegated, can you imagine next season's Premier league if it happened? It would mean that 7 teams would have to be promoted from the Championship, which would mean that 10 teams would be involved in auto promotion or the play offs. So the team finishing 10th in the Championship could have found itself in the Premier League next season! And this bloke thinks his idea would IMPROVE the quality of the Premier League????? As RVD says, this is quite Adrian Durham like in its idiocy!

Two things, spring to mind. 1. He must be a shit reporter because he hasn't taken the opportunity to have a go at Stoke! 2. If he has seen any football, he may have noticed that poorer teams always try to stop better teams. It's always been like that at any level where it matters. And when they don't they are generally very easily beaten by better teams. 3. If he wants to improve the balance to allow all teams to compete Robin Hood needs to be involved.

Also why is he blaming the teams in the middle for mediocrity. This has been caused by the super rich clubs buying the leagues with foreign money and foreign players - discarding youth academies and hoarding all the best players in their reserve teams.
If we looked at that side of things maybe the league would be more competitive again.

This what you are going to get when certain teams can go out and buy the best or better players. Until something is done about this, teams coming up will struggle. Take a look at Manu. They will just go out and buy the best to get them back to where they and the media see they should be. This is what's wrong. I could write a book on this, but I'll leave it at that for now.P.S. I don't want to see the same old teams at the top. This is my major gripe about football at the moment!

It's an absolutely shit idea and one that I can't believe a national newspaper has been willing to print. How does 38 points even prove your competence when playing in the top level? It only takes a run of bad results to plunge a very good team into relegation difficulties.
Just imagine if a ridiculous idea like this was implemented and one of the really big teams fell foul of this? They'd quickly move the goal posts wouldn't they?
