Further to yesterdays despairing post on the News of the World and there apparent 'random mark' strategy for players, their sister paper 'The Sun' today excelled themselves even further!
Here are their player marks!
EDG 7, Halls 8, Thomas 8, Taggart 7, Hall 7, Svard 6, Russell 7, Clarke 8, Hoekstra 7, Akinbyi 7, GNW 6
Now the marks are a little closer, but is that out of luck rather than any sort of judgement? (ie Stoke won so lets give them some good marks, but drop the odd bad one in)
Svard a 6? Which game was (or wasn't) he watching?
Tossers.

I reckon papers marks out of 10 for players are toss. How can a reporter who probably doesn't know the players game well, study and mark each player on the pitch? I remember a game a few years ago when a player was sent off early on and he got 4/10. What did he do to deserve a mark of 4? All he did in the game was hack an opponent.

I don't think The Sun's actual report was too bad though - better than I was expecting.

Still reeked of a 'right, we've got this story on John Halls...he used to play for Arsenal...surely we can give them a mention somewhere...I know, lets base the match report around it'
Don't they all use the report from the Press Assocation? I've noticed that Teletext/Ceefax has the same report on it nowadays. (so does Skys website, and the BBC's)

Trouble is Haj if you want to read ANY sort of review of the mighty Potters then you have to buy a tabloid - The Times/Guardian etc generally carry a one liner ('Stoke won at home versus Watford, meanwhile Gillingham...') which is equally as crap!
I do read a variety of papers each day during my (ahem) busy periods at work!

Last week the Independent had a half page match report on Stoke. The Times on Monday has "The Game" in which is good and has a write up of all matches and they alternate the teams generally.
I haven't had a paper today so havent looked at either of the above.
The Guardian does have a wank sports section and The Telegraph is more concerned with Premiership/Cricket/Rugby/Caviar Swimming etc.

as if they said this about out beloved ade, after the sunderland game
The new arrival from Crystal Palace had earlier amused himself by taking part in a half-time competition where the aim was to strike the corner flag, a feat which can be said to have earned him quite a comfortable living for the past decade
