Walters and Crouch both seem like potential targets for Palace. Jerome has already been there for a season. I really have nothing against these players but none of them seem to be favored by Hughes at this point. So could this open up some options for us over the course of the transfer window? Or do you think TP will leave it late again and our business will be done before he starts making buys?

Both Crouch and Walters are favoured by Hughes, Walters was a mainstay until his red card and we only dropped Crouch for the last two games. That's not to say we wouldn't sell for the right price but I think both have their parts to play next season, albeit from the bench but a Walters tear arsing around for the last 20 minutes will be a benefit next year, he's just not good enough to start

I first typed 'non-essential' and then changed it. Anyway, yes Walters as a sub was quite good the last few games. But if we buy a striker and a winger it has to force somebody down the pecking order and somewhere down the chain you have to move a player on. Either of the three players mentioned above to a TP-coached team might be our best bet to get some payment for the move (though Crouch's age obviously is a factor).

Of course if we get in two players who are an upgrade on Walters and Crouch then I doubt we would keep them. To be honest I think Walters from the bench will be a lot more effective than Crouch, but Crouch is a better starter. In order for us to sell before we have anyone in, it would either be because it is an offer we cannot refuse or we have a ready made replacement lined up that hasn;t been announced yet

Winger wise though Ethers is already gone and Kightly looks to be on his way out also we don't really have a mountain of strikers so I'm not sure anyone would have to leave if we got another in.

See my post above. I agree we need a full squad but if we buy a winger and a striker somebody is moving out of the game day 18 assuming the squad is at full health. Yes there will be injuries and we will need somebody. But let's say that hypothetically you could move these three for a total of 6 million. Do you want that 6 million in value sitting in the reserves or do you want to maybe sell them and put most of that 6 million into the game day squad?

I'd sell Crouch. For the wages he takes up we could get two players in that fit the system more effectively.

Or do you think TP will leave it late again and our business will be done before he starts making buys? Eh? Walters and Crouch weren't favoured by Hughes?!?! Really? Check the stats for appearances last year and the various comments from the man himself praising both of them. I'd be happy to keep both. They can both offer something for at least another season. Jerome on the other hand can stay as far away from the Brit as possible.

He can take any of our cast offs, but he won't want them as he has now seen what is possible by studying Mark Hughes methods!

This summer we will see how good Pulis' signings were when he comes back to try & sign a shit load of them.... or not Pulis himself though has got himself a little niche market, if he wanted to he could make ridiculous amounts of money for his own bank account by charging clubs vast sums of money to keep them in the division. He'll never be more than a mid-table manager no matter who he signs, we all know that. He should use his head and pimp himself about season upon season to the highest bidder.

I wouldn't be surprised if one or maybe even two of Crouch, Walters, Jerome and possibly Ethers were Pulace players by the end of August.

There's no doubt whatsoever that Pulis achievements this season will almost guarantee him a few highly paid gigs as a footballing Red Adaire in seasons to come should he choose to accept such challenges and risk of the likelihood that eventually he'll bite off more than he can chew. Longterm I believe any set of fans will become disillusioned by his methods.

Our club has stated that we don't need to sell any player.
We will "move some players on", hopefully after bringing in 2 or 3 additions.
I do believe that MH values the input from players such as Crouch and Walters and sees them as different options, depending on a number of factors, opposition, opportunity to affect a result with 30 minutes to go etc as well as providing healthy competition for starting places.
I also believe that it is important that we have enough players to provide such options. Players will get injured, be sidelined for disciplinary reasons, away with international football tournaments (USA, Nigeria) and it is important that we can manage such situations.
I think that QPR are more likely to come calling for PC if they get promoted - but I think that MH is keen to keep him here at Stoke

I'd not be overly concerned about players he would want leaving. I'd sell him any or all of Crouch, Walters, Adam, Whelan, Wilson, Huth at the right price. Not to say I want them all gone just that they'd all be available at the right price. I'd want to keep Bego, Shawcross, N'Zonzi, Arnoutovic, Muniesa, Butland, Ireland, Odemwingie as the basis of my squad and would be open to negotiation on any of the others dependant on having replacements in mind.

I'm sure Walters would be at the top of his list but i can't see Hughes letting him go even if he isnt going to be a regular next season. I don't think theres many of our players Pulis would want to sign who we are willing to let go.

Said many times I'd be happy with Walters as a squad player but equally happy to see him gone just for the security of knowing he won't be starting week in week out.

I never expected Hughes to have him as a regular starter but right up until his ban he was virtually ever present and back starting the final game. He's obviously a managers wet dream but given his lack of talent I just can't see that as being healthy.

Only ever good enough for a spoiling role IMO, I agree that's sometimes appropriate.
