Bloody mobile! Hope it reads better now but don't hold your breath. I agree Arnie is fast enough, strong enough and skilled enough to lead the line but I don't think he is enough of a natural goal scorer to do it properly. A natural goal scorer having the chances Arnie had this season would have scored two or three times as many goals. That takes nothing away from the fact that he is a superb player but I think he will always create more for others than he scores himself. Can't and won't disagree, but he is good compromise until we find the ideal striker. I think Assaidi on the left, Odem on the right and Arnie in the middle will frighten a few teams. Without knocking the effort Walters puts in, I am convinced that Arnie will miss no more than he does. Worth trying and his shots on target may improve.

I don't think poachers can lead the line on their own. Plus we won't always be able to approach games as a counter attacking style. We need a striker with some pace and good movement who's also good in the air and has some physical presence. So basically a younger version of Didier Drogba? Yeah, okay... Like, as many have said, someone in the mould of Bony/Benteke/Lukaku.

Diouf seems to fit the bill. Sure there must be a wealth of options abroad.

That's what Diouf is a pacey but strong striker Yes, I'm surprised there have been no announcements about him yet. Are we in negotiations with him or, given that he is a free agent, are we just one of a queue of clubs in for him? I imagine we still showing interest, as he has been Hughes number one target for past two windows, know he is a free agent, I expect a number if clubs would be after him, so it all depends on how much he wants to come the premier league, as ourselves are the only prem club to show interest, now Cardiff have gone down

My point was that we can all hope for someone with the pace of Messi, the strength of Drogba, the skills of Ronaldo and the finishing ability of Ruud Van Nistlerooy, but they usually play for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea etc etc. Those top strikers play for top teams for a reason. I would love for us to sign a player like Lukaku but after last season I just don't see it happening. If we could get Benteke, I'd be happy with that.

Bony has looked like the real deal this season. I saw him play in the Dutch league and wasnt convinced at the time - he had the strength but looked a bit of a donkey in front of goal.
But he has turned out to be class this season.

I thought Bony put in one of the most impressive displays by an opponent at the Brit this season on that windy night in February. The only striker to physically trouble Shawcross all year I'd suggest (maybe alongside Carroll).
As such, his stock has risen way beyond the like's of us, his next move will be to one of the real big clubs.
We need someone of similar ilk though without a doubt.

Very much doubt he will go to Arsenal, they will be after a proper well-established striker. Everton I could definitely see gazumping us on the condition that Lukaku doesn't stay there. Batshiuayi is basically Lukaku-lite. If Lukaku does go he would be perfect for them. I just want us to get hod of a piece of this Belgian golden generation coming through. Suppose we had Cuvelier but he's hardly been tearing teams apart since we let him go :/

Also 8mill euros isn't beyond our reach is it? Can see us offering that for a striker like Batshuayi. Can't see us going too much beyond that thought so if there is a bidding war we have no chance

It is ironic that Demba Ba is perfect for our set up at the moment but what sort of fee would he command now, irrespective of the fact that he wouldn't consider us because of previous! With Batshuayi, I think Arsenal are linked because he's expressed a fondness for them, but that doesn't mean he'll be the striker the Gunners pin their hopes on. If there's one player I'd hope Hughes will be able to spot for us it's a striker. Like others have said, whilst not dirt cheap at £7million, Benteke proved a real find. I'd certainly never heard of him.

We need to find the next Bony/Benteke/Lukaku.
It could be Diouf, who clearly Hughes likes, but it has to be someone who can do a bit of everything.
The 2008-2010 version, pre-shoulder injury, of Ricardo FuLler would be perfect.
Can we find that player? If we want to dream of pushing higher even than 9th, we have to.
An interesting summer lies ahead.

If Swansea and Villa can find them then there's no reason we can't.

If we have got 10-15 million to spend probably more to the 15 million. What about splashing the lot on these two Imoh Ezekiel / Michy Batshuayi. Then try to generate some more by selling an Adam / Crouch to put elsewhere.

As we developed a more counter-attacking style we need to change the personnel. Odemwingie is the perfect example for what we need. Pace, can interchange with the wingers in our front three and can get onto through balls that Crouchy (bless him) will never do, as well as finish.
Think more like Thierry Henry than a "holding" striker. Loic Remy would suit us an absolute treat but not going to happen.
Hughes has a real eye for players - one of his great strengths. My guess is it won't be a current Prem player and it will probably surprise us.

Does anyone think Sessegnon would work in the middle of a front three?. I think the pace and movement of him, Assaidi and Arnautovic would tear teams to shreds on the counter.

What about a couple of Africans plying their trades in Russia - Seydou Doumbia (Spurs were interested recently) and Dame N'Doye (Norwich bid 6m last summer), both with good scoring records. We could do worse than take a look.

We need a an effective striker. Someone who is strong, pacey and can put the ball away. As others have said, a bony type player would be ideal

Another vote for Ba, Big, strong, mobile and can score, only problem is not getting insurance for him.

If only Remy had signed three (four?) years ago, he would be perfect.
Basically, we need a time machine so we can have Fuller from five years ago and then we can sit around talking about how we need a younger version of Fuller.

Surely he is destined for bigger and better things?

Agreed, Mike - Sessegnon is an Ireland type player. Oh, and check your messages up above!
I may take a bit of flak for this one, but Darren Bent anyone? He is still only 30 and is a proven scorer in this league (when fit and on form). Yes, his attitude has been questioned, and he has blown us off before, but maybe he will realise now that he has one last chance of a decent Premier League club coming in for him, and buck his ideas up? He has at least 2 or 3 more years left in him and is a natural finisher.
