'No-mark journalist' is wider of the mark than one of N'Zonzi's goal attempts!

Mate I'm no good at doing linky things so I've relied on good old fashioned cut and paste. Suarez reaction was no crying shame Luis Suarez’s tearful show of emotion after Liverpool surrendered a three-goal lead against Crystal Palace last week brought a swipe on Twitter from the Stoke defender Robert Huth, who suggested that ‘crying on the pitch should warrant a three-match ban’. Huth must be forgiven his smart-arsery so long as he doesn’t actually think only genuine grief can justify a bit of blubbing. People are entitled to react in their own way to frustration and Suarez was obviously experiencing the depths of that as Liverpool’s already minuscule hopes of the league title virtually disappeared. Not all bullies are cowards and tough guys do cry. I’ve known weepers I’d bet were harder men than Robert Huth.

Surprised that a high quality journalist like Hugh McIllvenney (which he is) got hold of the wrong end of the stick on this one.
Maybe he is working on the basis that Huth, as a German, is incapable of humour? We, of course, know better!
Whatever - it's a piece of stupid writing.

Its an easy stereotype to get caught out by the vast majority of Germans I've come across are indeed fairly humourless and seem to struggle to understand sarcasm. On the other hand Huth is an expert, the composition and timing of his sarcastic tweets is pure gold.

Just because our sense of humour doesn't resonate with other cultures, it doesn't mean they are without humour; it's just different. By way of illustration, below is a joke a German friend told me; it's dry, droll, understated - but, to my mind at least, very funny (well, when told by a German at least!)

No doubt but their typical humor is obviously a lot more subtle than your typical Brit. Though obviously types of humor vary even within cultures, a lot of people tell me my own humor is brutal even within my own very cynical peer group.

Made me laugh when some of the bin dipping fans said to Huth on twitter about how he's never been that close to winning something even though he won the league at Chelsea.
Delighted the bin dippers won't win the league.

Boxing is Hugh Mac's big thing along with football and horse racing but honestly he can write like a dream on any sport in any country. To those who say he missed Huth's point he certainly didn't, he called it "smart-arsery" and that is precisely what it was and Huthy knows it was too. It's just a great little spat between the doyen of sports journalists and one of football's smartest, funniest and most articulate tweeters. Something to celebrate.
