I'm not sure he'd even make the bench.

He ain't that bad, but I wouldn't start him. One of Fulham's better players.

He ain't that bad, but I wouldn't start him. One of Fulham's better players. He isnt a bad player but for me we need to be looking at someone younger. In all honesty I dont think we need anymore central midfielders we have plenty.

He's been their best player this season but we don't really need him.

Had a very good season. But with Whelan Nzonzi and Adam do we really need another cm?

Can't go too wrong if you ask me, he's had a pretty good season and on a free it's hardly a significant risk! I'd be very happy with this signing

Sidwell would be excellent for us. His age would mean he had no sell on value however.
I would take him on a 2 yr contract so long as we did not spend more than 2mil including wages.

Good player, good engine, a goal scoring midfielder, no fee, what's not to like ?

good solid player, if he swap him and get rid of Palacios and on lower wages it would be a smart move.
Would keep Nzonzi and Whelan on their toes but he wouldnt start ahead of them

Firstly I'd trust MH's judgement. Secondly Stoke need strength at depth if they are going to achieve cup runs and eventually Europe. Thirdly Stoke are not going to "break the bank" on huge outlays for players, but make good value for money buys/contracts.
I'm no judge of how good he is and have reservations about buying from relegated teams (they're not good enough are they?) but by reputation he would be a better back up than Palacios.

Well if MH can turn Whelan into what he's become then I'm sure he could get the best out of Sidwell. I'm in.

There's a balancing act the club needs to get right here; if we load up our squad with experienced players to act as cover when regular first teamers aren't available, when will we ever bring young players forward.
For example, if Upson was still with us, you can bet we'd not have seen Muniesa play centre back when Ryan was suspended.
On the other hand, we don't want see our youth exposed as badly as they are at Aston Villa.

32 years old in December, hardly rings true to the policy Coates talked about at the beginning of the season with regard younger players with sell on value. I get the impression that Hughes is trying to rebuild the Waddington model that worked well in the 60's, early 70's. Old pros been there, done that, got the tee shirt.

Good player and for free he could be a bargain! Really can't see any reasons why he shouldn't hack it for another 2-3 seasons! He is a goal scoring midfielder too which would help a lot!

As a replacement for Palacios as back up, it's probably a decent move.
Is he another one who we have been linked with for years?

Not too bad as a squad player but we need to strengthen other areas first. Gouranga.

One thing we are forgetting, Sidwell is a southern boy at heart, the furthest north he ever got was Villa and that is still the South...ish (probably big wages there too). We were in for him when he left Arsenal and went to Reading instead. I can't see him coming this way, I think West Ham will be in for him and he'll go there
