I like a good cookery programme and when Keith Floyd turned up years ago as the crazy chef in "Floyd on Fish" he changed the game forever. Since then we've seen Jamie Oliver almost grow up on TV, there's loads of them. Who is your favourite? For me it's the New York chef, Anthony Bourdain. Genius.

As usual Trentham62 comes in with a world-beating post. Not only that, but pisses himself laughing at it as well. Well done Trentham 62!

Floyd was more about him than the food, and whilst he changed the genre forever, he owes some of his success to the Galloping Gourmet. That's not a criticism of Floyd as I would rather watch him than any of the current chefs. Interestingly he called himself a cook rather than a chef.
I love watching Michel Roux Jr on Masterchef Professionals, but less so on Food & Drink. I think Heston's a good watch when he's not being sensationalist. I think his In Search of Perfection and his quite recent one where he explained how to cook "normal" the food, better were brilliant.

ramsey is doubtless a good cook , having eaten in his restaurant ive had mixed experiences , being a good chef isnt the same as being a good restauranteur .
for me the best chef around is marco pierre white, eaten his food many times in 3 different locations its always been faultless simon hopkinson has a great reputation , he cooked brilliantly at Bibendum for many years Marcus Waring was responsible for running ramseys top eateries till they very publicly fell out . very well respected in the trade

Just to make you feel a little older ... Thank you, I now feel suitably older. Me too....... Remember Graham Kerr / the Galloping Gourmet very well. Always great fun to watch. Remember him using loads of cream in all his cooking, and always having a glass of wine handy - I'm sure he was the first to say 'have a quick slurp', which was later much imitated by Keith Floyd. And in fact I think I've got one of GK's cookbooks somewhere.....

Genius. My absolute favourite of all time would have to be…….. D-E-L-I-A !!! For me she's the most enjoyable BY FAR to watch on the TV, and (as many people say) her recipes do work beautifully - as such they are much nicked on the sly and 'given a slight twist', in an attempt to disguise their origin, by other 'chefs' who then try to pass them off as their own. Plus I've met her several times, and she's absolutely brilliant - a really lovely lady, very funny and very into her football and completely passionate about it and her club. Although I've only ever met her in a cooking capacity the talk between us always switched to football after about 30 seconds; the first time I met her I mentioned SCFC right away as being my club and she immediately started heaping obviously genuine praise on our club, our fans, and even on the book 'She Stood There Laughing' - she knew all about it and said it was an excellent and very clever and entertaining book about supporting SCFC. So come on, folks - own up - you know you'd love her too if she were a Potter and not a Canary!

I'm with the OP here. The Bourdain shows are great. I love his wandering the streets at 2am to find a local dish to soak up the booze!
