Great player but does anybody else think he's a couple of hamstring injuries away from being relatively average? He relies on his incredible pace so much and that can disappear very quickly. Thats kinda like saying Usain Bolt is a couple of hamstring injuries away from not winning the Olympics. Bale's main attribute is running in a straight line with the ball very fast for sure. But it does require some skill to keep the ball under control. Plus he does have a few tricks and a deadly shot as well. Compared to say Messi hes definitely not as tricky when it comes to dribbling, but he has the potential to be almost as effective It's not quite the same bud. Usain Bolt is in a sport that is all about speed and non contact. If Ronaldo or Messi had injuries that cost them speed they would still be very special players. I don't think Bale would. It's 80% of his game. Of course it's only hypothetical but Michael Owen is a perfect example of a very dangerous player that soon became very ordinary.

I think a better example is Jerome, if he lost his pace he would be a very average player.

Jerome is very average even with his pace My point was Jerome's best attribute is pace take that away from him and what are you left with? He has no football brain so relies alot on pace.

He's developed a great shot too but take away his pace and there isn't much left. In the Prem he used to be invisible against teams with quick fullbacks. Still, it's a great weapon whilst it lasts.

He has no football brain so relies alot on pace. I think that we can conclude as follows; Cameron Jerome is a very average footballer and Cameron Jerome, without his pace, is a less than very average footballer Simples!
