Anyone got newts in an ordinary garden wildlife pond? If so how did you get them and do they look after themselves ok? We're got frogs and at least one toad happily using our pond but I've never seen a newt in the garden. A trail of newt crumbs from a known newt dogging spot, then get a box with a stick holding it up, tie string around the stick and when the newt goes under the box for newt food you yank out the stick . Not know about the legality of it though.

I don't know how it got there but it appears that there's a small otter curled up asleep in my toilet pan.
He must be cold because he's partially covered by toilet paper.
I guess he came up the sewer pipe as he smells like a fresh dump.

Pleased to report that since my goldfish population decreased, newts have taken up residency and bred in my pond.
I spotted four about an inch long over the weekend.
My advice would be if you want amphibians in your pond then improve the natural environment.

No, when the beavers felled the giant sequoia at the south end of the manor they fled. I think their grayling foodstuff disliked the still water. The otter in my toilet is showing the signs of old age. His pelt is blue and furry and the lazy get is still in hibernation.

I've heard that the best way to wake sleeping otters is to jab them with an hedgehog. If you havn't got a hedgehog handy then apparently a loo brush does the trick. A dozing otter don't know the difference. Try it out, might work.
