scfc2014 - are you sure you're up to coming here mate, it's like getting the no 16 PMT to Leek yer know Don't think of coming here without your shark repellant, spider swatter and snake basher or you're not getting out alive It's a jungle out here! I knocked off a Tiger snake in my shed over summer. NSW's latest shark attack victim was 2 weeks ago. I can recommend the Daintree for a swim however.

I'd say the A league is somewhere inbetween league 2 and league 1 standard so the best you have played for is Hanley Town you ain't going to walk in to Brisbane Roar and get a contract

The standard if the A-League is always mentioned. But does it matter? I usually go every Brisbane Roar home game and watch every away game on telly. When you are there the standard never crosses your mind. After one Roar game it was disappointing to get chatting to several football fans who rarely attend A-League matches because they consider the quality of football on offer to be poor. Of all the reasons not to go to matches the perceived low quality of play is lame. Not least because the A-League is improving. It isn’t, and has never claimed to be, a rival to the European Champions League. It does however have some decent matches and holds it’s own as a national competition. To dismiss an entire league on the basis of poor quality is to suggest the only football worth spending time on is the absolute pinnacle. Why watch Brentford when they aren’t as good as Chelsea? Why watch Piacenza when you can watch Milan? For that matter, only Bayern Munich Barcelona and Real Madrid would attract crowds at all. Is this a healthy scenario?

.... Just starting to get the rain now in Mission Beach, crosses near us as a Cat 1 middle of the night. At least we haven't had the full Cat 5 this time as we had with both Larry (2006) and Yasi (2011)!

Which would be fine, if you weren't turning up to see the artificial game, shoved on top of the real game, for the benefit of tv (as far as I can work out?). www.footballqueensland.com.au/(and that's just Queensland ... every state has one ...) This year is the first year - relaunch - of the "nationwide" FA cup, which will include the TVers as well as the proper clubs Some great nogger is played, by those paid and unpaid, over here; but sadly only the cream ever gets a mention. .... Good to read, crowey - Seems to have ended as a "gentle" one, in comparison to 06 and 11?

Saw some damage from the last one when I drove up from Townsville to Cairns last year. All the best from Bathurst. Cheers Rog

I live in Richmond in Melbourne Anywhere near the Epworth on Bridge Rd? That's the only place I know in Richmond. Please tell me the AFL isn't drawing you in?? I live just off Swan Street up by Burnley station, it's a good spot. I've tried watching the AFL but it can be very tedious. The third and fourth quarters can be quite good but the other two are tediously boring. I get the impression that a lot of people don't even turn up for the start of the games because they know nothing will happen until after half time. Have you been to any A League games? I quite enjoy sitting with a beer in the sun.

I quite enjoy sitting with a beer in the sun. No I haven't actually but I keep thinking I will have to go along with my son to one of these Western Sydney Wanderers games one of these days. I live up at Bathurst at the weekends so it's always a pain to head back down to Sydney on the weekend when I have to go back anyway on a Monday. Those Melbourne people are a bit passionate about their AFL. I asked the General Manager of a hospital down there if he follows AFL. He promptly took off his tie, pulled up his shirt to display a Richmond football club tattoo on his chest. Unbelievable. There again, he could have been a priest or an 80s TV personality and taken off other parts of his regalia so I guess it was OK

Over on the other board there have been a couple of longrunning threads regarding one of our finest and his ambitions to play football in Australia. For the sake of completeness, this is the first installment of the FOOTBALL in OZ trilogy. JOE IN AUSSIELAND AND ALL THE OTHER OZZIES is the second episode and Got me visa is the third and (so far) final episode. Dont know how to transfer this thread onto the other board - sorry. But for those who are interested in the full saga, here is the beginning.
Read and enjoy.

His mate 'Joe in Ozzie' of course . Not forgetting he's also 'Marra bones' mate as well He can't be for real.....can he??? I don't know mate. Maybe he really is this insane and thinks he's now friends with them all. Maybe he truly does think the A-League is worse than the Traders. And looking at some of his posts on the forum, I'm leaning towards the idea of him being real, just a tad nutty.
