Looking forward to it. Did I mention I passed Charles Dance on the way out of the gents toilet at Belfast City Airport, he was on his way in. They film it over there, my eldest lad went over to see it last year.

From what very little I've seen of it, it looks like total bollocks/codswallop. Would you please enlighten me on why it's such a big thing with nerdy/inadequate types?

i must admit, i fail to see why grown adults would get so wound up in stories about Dragons and Dwarves etc. i've seen a couple of episodes as one of my best mates loves it but didn't really get the appeal myself.
Lord of the rings and The Hobbit i can understand people liking (i did when they came out) as a one off bit of escapism once every year or so but (genuine question) how can anyone relate to ,and therefore be gripped by, characters that are based in some mythical realm with fantastical creatures and wizards etc?
don't get it myself...then again i was just as confused as to why so many adults seemed to be so obsessed with Harry Potter as well, these kinds of things are for kids IMO....just a prolonged version of the BBC's Merlin from what i can see and whilst my 9 year old loved that, it didn't do anything for me i'm afraid.

I agree , read the Tolkien books as a teenager and been hooked ever since , in addition Tolkiens son was parish priest at hartshill Catholic Church when I attended in late 60s All this latest stuff is just a bit of frotage

Going off what I've just read I don't think you've really seen a couple of episodes mick have you? yeah...one was where some woman walked into a funeral pyre to get dragon eggs or something like that while loads of people bowed down in front of her (think she ended up in the buff actually..funny how i remember that bit )....all a bit "Kid's fantasy" for my liking. don't get me wrong, i used to love all those adventure books like "Deathtrap dungeon" about dragons and shit when i was younger ("do you want to battle the dragon? if so, turn to page 23, if not, then why the fuck are you bothering with this book?") but as a grown adult? i just don't get it really maybe it's more to do with my imagination (or lack of it)...i suppose there's probably a reason i get called "Sheldon" by some of my mates

It's strength is that under the surface it's more of a political thriller than a fantasy. If you absolutely cannot abide by any of the fantasy stuff then you're fucked I suppose but at least in the beginning the majority of it is just blokes with swords. You need to watch it sequentially or I don't see how it can be particularly enjoyable.
