Who have Ireland signed a deal with? Does it apply to all games or just home internationals? Seriously, I am delighted the lad has signed. I thought he was superb against Wet Sham

Can he play against Villa next season?

Does this make the original deal void?

Can he play against Villa next season?
I was wondering whether he could play against them tomorrow? (I know it won't be really, but ...) If the restriction was in the contract he signed, then this is a new contract. So is there a "purchase agreement" between the clubs? I thought the issue - which the new "rule" solved - was club's stating terms in player contracts ... (be a laugh if he does run out tomorrow ) Edit: And to echo what others have put - Great to see he's signed up after the performance in the Wet Sham game; here's hoping for many more.

He needs to perform like he did on Saturday more often. Let's hope the security of a contract motivates him to get close to the levels of performance he showed at Citeh.

This deal is solely between Ireland and Stoke City and either extends or replaces the deal he signed with us in January. It cannot change any details in the original contract of sale between Aston Villa and Stoke City because that is totally outside the scope of any contract between Ireland and Stoke.

Cracking player and the most suited player we have to link with the striker if we are going to play with just one up top.

Cracking player and the most suited player we have to link with the striker if we are going to play with just one up top. Exactly this. Last week showed his quality! He does the simple things well and when he gets a run of games and gets sharper will score 5-10 a season in my opinion! He gets into the positions at the minute with his 3rd man runs but is lacking sharpness in his finishing!

ha ha .... you lot are funny. Last week he was useless, crap, waste of time etc. Then he has a good game and all of a sudden hes God again :-) .... For what its worth I have always liked him since his spell at City and remember it was his introduction that turned the Chelsea game around. I would love to see him used much more and am very pleased with this news..

Excellent news.
Assuming we go out and get another couple of 'clever' footballers in the summer I think he'll be a superb bit of business. Same goes for Arnie actually. They've really brought the best out of each other when they have played together.
I reckon he's still got plenty of goals in him too.

There are some fickle fans on here. Before West Ham many people were slagging Ireland off: he'd been very poor, not interested in playing since he signed a full contract, waste of £60k week (like he's on that with us), etc. etc. Even the guys on Knot FM Sunday show were adding what he's doing for us.
Now it's all sweetness and light with him.
Personally, I've been impressed with him pretty much since he arrived. Just because he was side-lined for a while due to a resurgent Adam doesn't mean he's been playing poorly.

Against West Ham he was brilliant, but while players like Shawcross hold the side together week after week Ireland goes long spells making hardly any impact. It'll be interesting to see how this one turns out.

Has he really 'gone long spells without making any impact'? When he's played, he's generally done well hasn't he? Adam simply came in and took his chance I thought?

There are times, particularly when he's come on as a sub, that I'd forgotten he was on the pitch. If he was consistently good he'd have played more.

Don't think he would. His cameos haven't always been great but when he's started he's done well for the most part.

It's no coincidence that Adam played better once we got Ireland and that Ireland played better, when given the chance through Charlie's suspension. I think competition for places has improved the team in a few positions (Whelan and Nzonzi). Great news that he's signed. A couple of years ago we couldn't have afforded his wages.

Ireland has done well whenever given the opportunity and has been a very decent addition. Adam simply upped his game and became our most important player for a while. Credit to Hughes for instilling healthy competition. The two are completely different players and it's good to have the options to switch it up.

Healthy competition in a harmonious team is great news.

Should start every game until we get a different type of striker in.
