10,000 per away game cost for coaches !!!!! What planet and calculator does some of you use !!!! So we took 20 coaches to man utd,man city and Liverpool did we ? And paid 500 Each for em !! Please feel free to contact me on any aspect of coach prices.and as much respect I have for Malcolm. the club has received a 200.000 grant from the premier league. the actual wording of the grant is "to improve the away day experience of the supporters away travel" please ring me Malcolm to confirm where this information comes from.the actual terms are a bit of a mystery ? Even on stoke city advertising at the beginning of the season, no credit to where the money to fund free travel appeared from ?west ham discounted tickets, Norwich do the same and take very good away followings,we put free travel on and our away followings go dramatically down ? It's definitely something the club should have asked supporters to vote on ? And when on here we complain of overpriced tickets at certain away games, the grant could be used for that ? Hence everyone who follows stoke and lives all over the country, gains ? So away support at expensive games should go up ? Again. free travel is good for some, cheaper tickets. everyone gains. FYI we took 24 coaches to Liverpool And as Followyoudown says above, you can't just focus on the cost of the bus, stoke usually make a profit on this service so loss of revenue has to be accounted for in this cost. So whilst real terms money spent may only be 100K Stoke may well have lost out on 100K profit = £200K cost (Just an example).

To word it a better way. If they subsidise tickets like you want then a ticket to say Chelsea is £45 - You pay £22.50 stoke pay £22.50 What stoke are offering is free travel which is the same/better than subsidising Cost £25 - you pay £0 Stoke pay £25
The only difference between the 2 examples is that in the 1st Chelsea get the money in the 2nd Stoke get it.

At the risk of repeating myself, it's not a grant, but an agreement between clubs that they will each spend £200k on away supporters. Within that general definition, clubs have complete freedom as to how they spend it. But I very much doubt whether how much they have actually spent will be audited or monitored by the PL. The FSF is suspicious that some clubs wont spend the full amount. For the record, I argued that it should be spent on reducing ticket prices rather than travel, but the club preferred the latter. I think it was because it's much simpler to administer and has less risk of home clubs putting us in a higher price category knowing that Stoke subsidise tickets for all away games. They also made the point that 85% of season ticket holders/members have local postcodes so could take advantage of the free travel relatively easily. I would still prefer it on ticket prices, but the club's reasons are not without some merit. I think it's also only fair to point out that Stoke were the club pressing most strongly for the PL to do something for away fans. It's quite possible the initiative wouldn't have happened at all without Stoke City doing that. We will ask how much is projected to be spent. Whether the club will tell us is another matter.

Half price chelsea ticket is only ok for fans that can make/get a ticket for that game ?
I know not everyone benefits with free travel and some don't like the official travel being so restricted but that's another argument. You can't accuse the club of not using up that 200K grant. The benefit to people that have used the free travel is a lot more than the £5-£10 off a match ticket they would have got.
If they budget for say an average of 1500 per game then they can subsidise a ticket by £7. Some of the free travel have saved people over £30.

I find the thread title and most of the content very baffling.
Complaints about Stoke City and the Premier League giving cash away?
Insinuations that money is being wasted / unaccounted for / badly managed?
I have to say I thought the initiative was a great idea and when I looked at what each club was doing, I thought Stoke City came out on top for initiative, fairness and generosity?
How many people have used the coaches?
Figures on here seem to suggest:
16 games x 10 coaches = 160 coaches 2 games x 20 coaches = 40 coaches 1 games x 24 coaches = 24 coaches
So that's 224 coaches over the season What's the coach capacity, is it 49-53?, so use an average of 51 people per coach.
224 coaches x 51 people = 11,271 Stoke City supports who have received free away travel
What would the cost of away travel normally be?
A quick google, lead me to Everton's official website and their Away Travel Club, which clearly lists the cost of travelling by coach to each away game.
This season an Everton fan would pay £514 to travel to every away game. That's an average of £27.00 per game
Take Stoke City's free travelling supporters....
So for 11,271 fans to travel to Everton away games it cost £304,317.00 For 11,271 fans to travel to Stoke City away games it cost £000,000.00
Put another way:
£200,000 / 11,271 fans = £17.75 average price per coach ticket per away game = very good value indeed, surely no money left over here? ,
= £200,000 - £300,000 that the Premier League and Stoke City FC have helped put back into the economy / back pockets of loyal supporters.
I don't think there can be many better 'money for nothing' deals for Stoke City supporters in the near future can there?
