Ireland said in the Waddo Suite on Saturday, that he doesn't think he can play against Villa Thought he'd been signed permanently. Does the "cannot play against parent club" rule still apply?

There must have been something written into the contract when he signed permanently, regarding not playing against them this season. Because he seemed certain he couldn't play

Be amazed if Ireland can't play due to a clause in his contract, can't see why Villa would want one any way.

He's permanent so they can't stop him playing.. Unless we had a gentleman's agreement, Wezza as sometimes happened. I think it's bollocks, they didn't want him and he is now our player on a permanent deal. Perhaps Ireland was unsure as when we last played Villa he was on loan?

Despite us having a good result at the weekend I can see this being a very difficult game.
Hopefully Muni plays again he needs as many games as possible to gain the experience at this level.
If Ireland can't play I'd hope Ozzy is fit
Is Walters serving a 3 game ban? Kompany got a straight red on Saturday and is banned for 1 game unless the FA take action on his antics after he left the pitch

I'd keep muniesa in, I thought him and Arnie were fantastic down the left kept switching Arnie covering when muniesa overlapped seems like they have a real understanding of each others games and the more muniesa plays the better it is for his own development

There must have been something written into the contract when he signed permanently, regarding not playing against them this season. Because he seemed certain he couldn't play Although players on loan are not allowed to play against their parent clubs, it was certainly a league rule a year or so back that permanent transfers were NOT allowed to have a clause in the contract stipulating that the player could not play against the club which sold him. I would think that rule will still apply.

I was pessimistic about the WHU match, but feel more confident now about a good result against Villa.
At the risk of stating the obvious Stoke, Villa, WHU, and Hull have similar statistics, but my natural bias tells me Stoke are the best team of the group.
Villa are on a roll beating Chelsea, 3rd home match on the trot and looking for a third successive victory. BUT
Villa's home record is not much better than Stoke's away record. Their crowd will quickly lose patience with them if things don't go right for them (like Newcastle supporters) due to lack of confidence in their home form and the manager is not popular. They have lost 8 home matches; only Fulham are worse.
They lost to WHU, and Stoke are better than WHU by a margin IMO. Not many teams out of the top group win 3 in a row.
We know how bad Stoke's away form is, but they haven't been badly beaten since the Spurs match in December, and it's about time their away results started to reflect their ability and position in the table.
Stoke players are up-beat and now playing for their positions and know their is someone waiting to take their place if they don't perform. MH isn't going to plump for the same (available) XI each week.
So I'm expecting Stoke to get a good result or go pretty close.

i'm afraid this has got 0-0 written all over it, we still cant play at home v teams that dont want to be too ambitious most of our decent results at home have come v teams that came for a win[city, chelsea, norwich] so unless you go for it a bore draw sorry

I sense a Hull City 0-0 Stoke City thrill a minute ride coming up.

2-0 Stoke, same team as against West Ham apart from Muniesa in at LB (no need to rush Pieters back).

Surely Hughes will start Assaidi if he's fit, with Arnie playing behind Crouchie and Odemwingie to the right. That would make an exciting team for me, with both Muniesa and Cameron pushing up the field when attacking.
This tie obviously has draw written all over it, but we could certainly nick all 3 points if we play as well as we did against West Ham.

If Assaidi is fit then id go with Crouch - Odemingie
Assaidi - N'zonzi - Whelan - Arnautovic
Muniesa - Shawcross - Wilson - Cameron If not then i'd go with Crouch - Guidetti
Arnautovic - N'zonzi - Whelan - Odemwingie
Muniesa - Shawcross - Wilson - Cameron However I think Hughes will go with Crouch
Arnautovic - N'zonzi - Palacios - Whelan - Odemwingie
Pieters - Shawcross - Wilson - Cameron

Muniesa in for Pieters but otherwise same team surely? Villa have shut me up lately, playing very well. Ireland won't be playing so it won't be the same team. I won't believe in the Arsenal win, Man U win, Chelsea win or even he West Ham win until we can show some proper balls on the road and beat a team on our level !!!
